From Fujifilm to Leica: My Experience with the M11

I’ve always wanted to shoot one of those, but not enough patience, lol. My point is that a part of me was seeking something more ‘compact’ than an M, but at the end of the day, none of those cameras were really any less compact than an M for me. Plus I’ve been shooting with M’s since 1994, so they are second nature for me.

X100 series are great small cameras but I think any comparison with a Leica M11 is misplaced.  Apart from a very superficial visual resemblance (I haven't read the OP's blog), they are two very different cameras and it's a rather pointless comparison imo.  

I've used my X100F as a second camera at dozens of weddings since I upgraded on release of the X100F from the X100S which also served me well as a second wedding camera.  I never felt any need to upgrade the X100F to the X100V.   Not the fastest or best af by any standard, but it's accurate, as is the metering and there is a pleasant softness to the 23mm lens at f2-2.8.  

X100's are good, robust little cameras in my experience.

My blog post’s content wasn’t solely about a comparison between the X100V and M11. It reflects My experiences of switching. Yes they are very different of course, but again the blog title also isn’t X100V vs M11.

There is only a single section, and I wrote that because I have many followers on Twitter and elsewhere who asked me countless times what the difference is. Obviously, it’s apple vs orange

No need to spit your dummy out, it's not that important.  My initial reply was mainly to counter someone else's negative comments about the X100 series. Peace.

I made the same migration, X100, X100T, X100V, then Leica Q2 and finally Leica M11.

I think what Fujifilm have done with the X100 series is fantastic, and has clearly won them a huge piece of the market.

But in the end, the APS-c sensor can only go so far when competing with a 35mm sensor, and the quality of Leica lenses and construction is next level - as it should be for the price!

Merhaba Fatih. I own the x100v as well as the M11, Q2M and an MP. I’ve always tried to rotate through my cameras but have found I haven’t used the x100v but once last year. It’s a great camera but doesn’t make me “want” to use it when the other options are the joy of picking up one of the Leica cameras instead…they seem to energize and inspire me more…

It was a fantastic camera before TikTok was a glimmer in the Ministry of State Security's eye

The V lens is more than a little better than the F, especially at MFD wide open.

The X100 lenses can only be so good, though, given their compact size.

I recently sold off my Xpro3 system and only have one lens left unsold/trying to sell (16mm 2.8).  It's a nice camera but I just wasn't using it as I also have an M10r.

For all those who claim it is an RF camera - it is not. There is no RF and manual focus is terrible unless you use the full EVF.  Which solidifies that it is not an M replacement.

I enjoyed using the OVF for a while, but found that AF with the OVF was not as reliable as I would have liked as you never were sure exactly where it focused unless you chimped.  No issues when using the EVF as the focus point could be made far more precise, plus you could see what was happening.

Anyway, a nice system that I bought on a whim to see what it was about, and now have sold.

I tried the X100 series a few years ago but didnt get on with it. I found the whole autofocus shutter button delay thing to be anoying and the viewfinder frustrating... sure I could have probably got used to it but coming from an M4 I really missed the seamless click of the shutter and the more visceral experience of the M.

But I have seen amazing images taken with the Fuji X series. Much better probably than anything I have every produced with a Leica.

Its the photographer who takes the photos not the camera.

I had an X-E3, that thing was awesome for its size and price - massively underrated camera. The sensor was excellent, loved it. I just got fed up of the semi-slow auto-focus and non-existent manual focus. I probably should have jumped to the X-Pro 3 but went M11 instead, no regrets but will definitely keep my eye on the X-pro line.

Here is the hard fact when it comes to comparing the 2 systems , Fuji x system with a complement of lenses 5000 dollar investment will hook you up good 

Leica M11 with a complement of nice glass 30,000 dollar +.  Huge difference  different league

30K is unneccesary. Voigtlander is making some EXCEPTIONAL glass for not a lot of money. As good as pretty much anything out there. Including some new APO lenses that are remarkable.

Yes Voightlander does make some very good glass but , The allure of the red dot will sucker you in one by one and one day you realize that 30k + is in a billingham over your shoulder... I am up to 21 lenses and well over 70 k into it
