Seriously?

If we restricted our purchases to only those corporations whose bosses are Saints our houses would, no doubt, be very empty places...

Philip.

More importantly, making claims that someone is not a good person in this context without immediately providing a source to verify that claim is pretty tasteless.

@hjddd What say ye?

The len may be a good one,but the boss of LLL not a good person

Do you use google?  They have developed AI that dicatorships use to crush dissent.

Do you use Apple products?  Built in Foxcomm factories that have suicide nets around them.

Do you eat meat?  Drive a car?  Use batteries?  The moment you start looking into industry things get very ugly.

Slandering one specific person without providing context is not cool.

Thanks for those links, Robert. I see we 'cross-posted'.

I've just written a question to LLL and am awaiting clarification on a couple of points...

Philip.

Oh, at this point it's mainly for clarification regarding logistics (pricing; postage; handling; taxes) and nothing to do with rendering which I'm positive will be wonderful.

Whilst the price, taxes included, of for instance a Black Paint / Brass example might be fixed in the USA at $2,200 that means nothing for us over here in the UK. Depending on how LLL can arrange matters that might be the final cost. OTOH if VAT has to be added that puts the price up to $2,640. If Import Duty is to be added then that percentage is added to the price including VAT. I'm not sure what the current rate is but at a guess (based on previous experience) the asking price would now be around $2,700. If there are additional shipping charges and handling fees to consider we might eventually get up to the $2,800 mark.

Going back to the opening post the figures mentioned (in Can. Dollars) were £1,300 / £1,450. Stating the obvious there is a bit of a difference from these 'original' prices to what might be the final figure for we Britishers.

In the first reply I received (from the North American distributor) it included the wording;

"regarding shipping. Yes, the Tax is included if you are located in the UK, and we will try our best to avoid any shipping charges/custom fees..."

Having asked for specific clarification I have just received a further message which states;

"...I sent multiple lenses to customers in the United Kingdom.........in 2021/2022. I have not heard anything regarding any extra cost with customs/import duties/VAT from the customer's end with my shipping logistics. The USD 2,199 price includes shipping, taxes and import duties..."

Hope that might be of interest to anyone here in the UK.

Philip.

Has anyone thought of this in all logical manner ? The truth is you take a lens made in 1966, a stretch by a company daring to push the limits but a imperfect lens none the less. It gets replaced with a better design in the F1, then gets replaced by yet even a better design in the 0.95. but yet we all yearn for those old faulty lenses, pay insane amount of money for them hype up the legend and even pay stupid money for their replicas. Lol only in the land of the red dot.

Part of the issue is digital sensors.  Back in the day, few wanted a Noctilux; heavy, not exactly optical perfection, and really, only one stop faster than the Summilux.  Then digital cameras came along and their sensors made even the old, flawed lenses acceptable.  Further, whereas us film guys get variety by just changing film or developer or how something is developed/printed, digital cats have to rely on changing lenses or I suppose post processing editing changes.  And finally, a new wave of popularity for the M mount rangefinder which has made everything directly and indirectly connected to it desirable.  Hard to imagine only a little over fifteen years ago there was talk Leica would go out of business!!!  Oh my, the deals on equipment available then.

No bun-fight intended I assure you, because I agree with the thrust of your post, but the bit quoted here is somewhat misleading.

Once selection of film stock has been made* when comparing 'Film' with 'Digital' the choice of developer and how that film-stock is developed/printed in 'Analogue-Land' is the exact equivalent of what you call "post-processing editing changes" in Digi-World.

Post-Processing in this context merely describes how any latent image (Analogue-Land) or DNG (Digi-World) is treated once the 'latent image' has been captured.

Once film has been exposed every aspect of how the latent images are treated will affect the final result. Which film developer? Which dilution/temp./agitation? Which type of enlarger; condenser/diffuser/point-source? Which enlarger lens? Which print-paper? How much 'dodging' or 'printing-in'? Which paper developer? To Glaze or Not To Glaze? The list of options Post-Exposure in print-world is very, very long. Most of these items found in Analogue-Land will have its equivalent in far as how a DNG file is treated in Digi-World.

It might be a good idea to consider digital Post-Processing / Editing / Printing of DNG files as being the same thing as Post-Exposure / Processing / Printing of Film stock.

Furthermore it is not just in Digi-World where changing lenses will return a different rendering...

:)

Philip.

* In Digi-World some fortunate snappers here have a vaguely similar decision to make; which body to use? Colour? Monochrom? CCD? CMOS? 12Mp? 18Mp? 24Mp? 40Mp?......

Every point is still valid today, but the marketing is better. About 75% of people who buy a Noctilux sell it eventually.

Yup.

(dredging up this thread rather than starting a new one)

Is anyone here awaiting their preorder of this lens? It's interesting that the LLL 8e announcement generated hundreds of pages of discussion over at the RFF, but nobody is talking about this one much. Maybe the cost? I love my LLL 8e, but it seems to me that this is even a more desirable replica (i.e. I could buy an original 8e and probably not get divorced, but that is not so with an original 66 Noctilux).

Yes; I completely understand about the '66 Noctilux / Divorce thing...

I'm glad you resurrected this thread as I was very interested to read about the upcoming (in theory) LLL lens and would like to know what is the current state-of-affairs.

Like yourself I am delighted with the results I get from my '8-Element' and would LOVE to see what the NoctiLLLux might be like. Hopefully someone reading this will be able to give us all an update?...

I like NotctiLLLux a whole bunch. I am also amused that they are engraving the pre-orders with "Noctilucent"

If this one is as well executed as the 8e, I'll be more than thrilled. We live in a remarkable age, having the opportunity to shoot lenses like this that I could have only dreamed of 10 years ago.

I did check in June on the status of 1966 production. The answer I received was “Coming after SPII production”

LLL seems to master the trick of aspherical element productions. They are confident to announce the 35/1.4 Double Asph in development recently and today the 28/2 Asph.

A second round for pre-order round of the 50mm f1.2 will be announced soon.
I received also today the announcement of the 28/2.

I just got an answer to my inquiry about a 2nd round of pre-orders (is that still a preorder?) that confirms this. Thanks!

yes the lenses need to be coded for the digital M to recognize them, to have the lens type in EXIF.

Maybe some vignetting correction for some lenses.

By "e3" do you mean the '8 Element'?

If so then I can say that I've been using just such a lens uncoded for two years and the results / images it produces are wonderful. As Arnaud says there might be a smidgen more vignetting present at certain apertures than were it to be coded but nothing very important in real-world terms (IMO).
