He said that modern batteries sometimes go into a ‘hibernation’ after their initial factory charge, if they have not been used for a while. He then suggested to let the battery completely run out and to try charging again. This did alter the LED light behaviour on the external charger. Any modern battery if you run it out completely hey, it will drastically shorten the life of the battery.

Typically battery, half charge it in the box , and software on devices that are plugged in all the time, keep the battery at 70-80% of the charge for preservation.

I have noticed that not all cable work as a charger and not all USB charger work for this battery charger, are you using the original Lico charger and cable?

I have two batteries the one that came with the camera and one extra one that I bought right after , the extra battery dies blink green in a usual way, but at the end, the battery always charges.

Leica cameras that are designed to be charged by USB cable can be charged that way from whatever source. I have charged my SL2-S from a mains socket and USB adapter (like I have my phone, my laptop etc). My first port of call here would be the cable, then the battery - after that I would take the camera back to the dealer.

Same here. I use the supplied Leica USB cable and charge using the Leica battery charger, plugging the cable into my Apple charge plug (the simple iPhone version that is just a 3-pin plug with a USB hole in the bottom - I’ve never used the more powerful MacBook chargers). Never had a problem with either of my batteries.

My first port of call was to use the supplied Leica charger and cable. I then tried different cables, and a power bank directly into the camera with the battery inserted. All producing the same end result: a charge of 15% and no more.

I believe there were reports that M11 is more finicky than SL2 about the charging source. AFAIK, the source must be PD compliant.

I can understand that. But the consequence of using a non-PD cable would be a failure to charge rather than fried electronics.

Sorry, I just saw this. I plug it in to the wall using any random multi-port charger or my Macbook pro charger.  Most frequently with one of my Apple chargers as they are always available and out.  Otherwise the batteries just go in the Leica supplied charging cradle.  As a working photographer I don't have the time or inclination to mess around with some special process for charging my many cameras.

There seems to be an in camera charging issue, since the firmware update? I don’t know.
I visited the very helpful Leica dealer in Salt Lake City and tried a brand new battery in the camera and the same charging fault occurred (rapidly flashing green light) no matter what cable was used. 
Can charge with the external charger however

I do not know of any charging issue since the firmware update. Was your camera able to charge the battery before the update?

i tried mine and it worked, usb A to C, metered at 1.6a cable is from few years back, imho not so finicky after all but the led bug still exist in my case

Another update. The new battery arrived and it charged first time. Dealer is sending a replacement for the original.

Thanks for all the help and communication, it’s really appreciated!

Interesting to note a firmware update charge problem, I’ll be keeping an eye on that and other issues before I update.

I have several times forgotten the battery charger and used the usbc to charge instead withotu a problem.  It does take a little lionger but I just leave it overnight.

From what i saw in reddot forum talks, the usb c in built should charge faster than the external to 100% though quite significantly

Interesting.  I Dj t time things and it is true that when charging the battery alone I am not really aware of the time. ( I have two batteries)  on the other hand I am more aware when using the usb c.  So I can’t tell either way but if you’re right then both are slow

Do you have the source (YT link and time stamp)?
I observe an 85% battery charging at 8.7W internally and 9.1W externally. If both methods reduce the charging power at the same amount (when the battery becomes almost full), external charging is faster.
BTW, the battery is charged to 80% in an hour, and it takes another hour to  charge it fully (source: RDF).
