I managed to get one on the release day, just fortunate to be browsing the web when the notification landed in my email in-box. It’s been in almost daily use with the 35/2 permanently attached. I’ve also had the Q2R since March, and although other users have made comments about the Aramid fibres lifting, I’ve experienced no problems at all with both my Reporters. The low light capabilities really work for me, plus I think it looks pretty good. Nice bit of kit.

yes, a really nice camera; also have no problems at all with the Kevlar with daily use since the end of October, hopefully it stays that way.

Only the idea from the advertisement doesn't apply, in everyday life it stands out more than "normal" models.

I am very satisfied with it

In all the years that I've owned Leicas (since 1975), I've never owned a green or Safari model, though that's what I do for a living. I finally succumbed to the temptation and traded my SL2-S for the SL2-S Reporter.

I'm really pleased, I used the camera heavily on a recent Mountain Gorilla trek in Rwanda. Also no issues with the Kevlar, from being initially sceptical, it's grown on me.

The camera also compliments the rest of my gear.... ☺️

Advertisement (gone after registration)

Although not strictly related to the questions regarding the SL2-S Reporter, I’m following this guy on Insta who was using a Q2R in a reportage manner in UKR; he’s back in the country and I believe still using it.

I think the link works, otherwise his name is jangrarup.

It's taken me nearly 50 years to buy the SL2, got my Leicaflex SL back in 1973.

Now I am proud to own the SL2s Reporter, and it's beautiful especially the green and with the RRS bottom plate.

Never thought I would buy another Leica after Leica discontinued the R system, but I must admit the SL2s works beautifully with R lenses.

So now I am back with Leica after 10 years, I did hold on to my  eight  R lenses as well as two  M lenses, so I might pick up the M to L adapter.

Thank you Leica for making this old man happy once again.

Ken.

I paired mine with 35mm F/1.4 Wetzlar edition lens & had to get the leather case to protect the Aramid 😉

I finally succumbed and ordered an in-stock SL2-S Reporter, and it should be here tomorrow. Kills me they won't let us apply the Family & Friends $1,300 USD discount like we could with the previous $650 off, meaning those of use that couldn't get one right away get zero discount.

That's nice hdmesa. You like this Reporter design and since it's a very limited production it's not just another nondescript model. Will you have a favorite lens for it?

Thanks. Yes, it's a nostalgic purchase for me, since my favorite camera purchase ever was a used R3 Safari kit back in the film days. I had the R3 Safari body with the matching 50mm lens and suitcase.

After I sold all my Leica gear a few months ago, I did keep one lens, the LLL 35mm 8-element collapsible version. It's just extraordinary with the SL2-S, and I like the 0.5m MFD and infinity lock. It works very well with the L-mount macro adapter I have, which lets me get much closer than MFD. I may re-acquire the 35 Lux pre-ASPH v2 as well. I had sold that in anticipation of the re-issue of the Steel Rim, but I've decided I prefer the v2 12504 hood over the re-issue's hoods.

<edit> My other favorite lens for the SL2-S is the Minolta 58mm f/1.2, which I still have.

This notice was new and didn’t come with my Q2 Reporter or M10 Reporter:

Switched straps to the COOPH Leica Double Rope Strap in 100cm. The R&R strap is really long and lets the LCD hit the knife clip on my front pants pocket. Lens shown extended this time.

Hdmesa, I have to ask, was this the in stock SL2-S Reporter on Popflash that I was torturing myself over the past few days? :P

in any case, enjoy the camera, can't wait to see what you do with it...

Yes, it was 🤫 Sorry but also thanks for the kind words.

Leica Manchester has one in stock, and if you're in the US, you could even save some money due to the exchange rate – comes out to around $4800 USD before shipping.

https://www.leicastoremanchester.com/sl2-reporter.html (change currency to USD and add to cart – pop-up on the site will show the wrong price as WAY low, so click to go to the cart to see the US price)

The official Leica sites only ship to their respective countries/areas, unfortunately.
