Kiwimac Posted December 20, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M6 and M7 film bodies proudly said M6 and M7 on the front. Why did Leica cease that tradition with the digital bodies - aside from the 240 which just has M on it?
Advertisement Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Hi Kiwimac, Take a look here Why don't M bodies have numbers on anymore?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Sonnelacht Posted December 20, 2022 Share #3 Posted December 20, 2022 So simple: Leica will prevent you to be recognised as somebody who is not rich enough to buy the latest model.
wda Posted December 20, 2022 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2022 I think my MP240 has that designation imprinted on the edge of the flash shoe.

Because I don't care what camera somebody else is using so why do I need to be told! 🙂

lct Posted December 20, 2022 Share #7 Posted December 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tradition for some, novelty for others. First thing i did when i received my brand new M4-2 was to remove the white paint of those ridiculous (to me) things in the eighties (pic). My M4 had none previously. Neither did my M3 and M6J. My M8.2 and M240 got the same treatment as my M4-2 so i was glad to see those numbers disappear on the M11 but sad to have to tape the even more ridiculous (to me) red dot again . Most Camera makers choose to put the model designation on the front of their cameras (Canon, Pentax, Nikon etc. I wonder what strange quirk makes Leica owners think it is wrong and has to be obliterated. Each to his/her own I suppose. I tend to use my cameras (of all makes) to take photos, the logo on the front doesn't change the quality of the picture. Sure but that's no reason to be turned into a sandwich man. If Leica, Canon or whatever wants me to advertise, I have a royalty program at their disposal .
Anbaric Posted December 20, 2022 Share #10 Posted December 20, 2022 Leica figured they were making things far too easy for people, and it was time to return to the days when their customers were expected to know, instantly, the differences between a III (Model F) and a IIIf.
Kiwimac Posted December 20, 2022 Author Share #11 Posted December 20, 2022 I presume from the replies that Leica have never offered an actual reason.

Einst_Stein Posted December 25, 2022 Share #14 Posted December 25, 2022 The best way to attract attention is without logo or number at all. My XV does not have easy spotable character or number, I always get people attention, asking me what camera it is.I enjoy that.
