My M6 and M7 film bodies proudly said M6 and M7 on the front.

Why did Leica cease that tradition with the digital bodies - aside from the 240 which just has M on it?

Because I don't care what camera somebody else is using so why do I need to be told! 🙂

Tradition for some, novelty for others. First thing i did when i received my brand new M4-2 was to remove the white paint of those ridiculous (to me) things in the eighties (pic). My M4 had none previously. Neither did my M3 and M6J. My M8.2 and M240 got the same treatment as my M4-2 so i was glad to see those numbers disappear on the M11 but sad to have to tape the even more ridiculous (to me) red dot again

Most Camera makers choose to put the model designation on the front of their cameras (Canon, Pentax, Nikon etc. I wonder what strange quirk makes Leica owners think it is wrong and has to be obliterated. Each to his/her own I suppose. I tend to use my cameras (of all makes) to take photos, the logo on the front doesn't change the quality of the picture.

Sure but that's no reason to be turned into a sandwich man. If Leica, Canon or whatever wants me to advertise, I have a royalty program at their disposal :D.
