Romeomcdallan Posted December 11, 2022 Share #1 Â Posted December 11, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All - I searched the forum but I couldn't find a definitive answer. I just got a brand new M11 and I am trying to charge it using the USB-C port of a 2016 MacBook Pro 15inch. This doesn't seem to work for whatever reason and I was wondering if any of you had any luck or if my camera is defective. The camera charges fine by using the laptop USB power brick when connected directly to the wall plug and to the M11 USB port. So the issue is Mac usb-c port-->M11. I have used the supplied usb cable, a normal usb-c to usb-c cable as well as a certified thunderbolt cable usb-c cable and it doesn't work with either of them. Your comments are greatly appreciated. M11 for me Posted December 11, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) What you can do is to attach the small Leica charging unit via USB and charge the batteries that way. Edited December 11, 2022 by M11 for me

SrMi Posted December 11, 2022 Share #6 Â Posted December 11, 2022 I can charge my M11 with my Macbook Pro 14, 2021. It does not charge as fast as with an appropriate USB brick.
pop Posted December 11, 2022 Share #7 Â Posted December 11, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the 2016 MacBook capable of USB-3 or only USB-2? You could also use what they call a power bank.

geotrupede Posted December 12, 2022 Share #10  Posted December 12, 2022 Leica SL2S charges with all sort of devices, a marvel. For some odd reasons the M11 is not able. Perhaps the size increment of the SL2S is all to do with this? Jokes apart it is a little disappointing and, alongside other glitches, spoils such a cool and lovely product. SrMi Posted December 12, 2022 Share #13 Â Posted December 12, 2022 Here is a list of ports in MacBook Pro computers and what they can be used for. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201736

Are you saying that you can charge your SL2 using the ports on your MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)? Edit: the new Hasselblad X2D seems also to need a Thunderbolt/USB 4 for charging, like M11. It seems that the new cameras require chargers with USB-PD technology. Edited December 12, 2022 by SrMi
Photoworks Posted December 13, 2022 Share #15 Â Posted December 13, 2022 Well I think you can blame apple for that, in 2016 models not all USB-c ports provide enough power when computer runs on battery and when computer has other devices attached. Your best bet is to use the port next to the power port, the other side is like a hub and does not have the same power. Â The new MacBook Pro 16 from 2021 charges the M11 and SL2 just fine, it is still slow and the only benefit is that it can be tether to capture one and still keep the battery working longer.
