Advertisement Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Hi Guest guy_mancuso, Take a look here Looking for a WATE . Ouch. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
c6gowin Posted October 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 10, 2007 Ouch is right. David Farkus told me a while back that I did very good getting the WATE from him when I did. He is right. I guess he told me that after the price increase was announced, but this is the first time I have actually seen the lens in stock at the new price. Now his comment is finally crystal clear. I don't know about you, but I am not accustomed to buying photography equipment that INCREASES in value. I like it. Mark Gowin

Mark Gowin Yes Mark with me twisting his arm in Germany to give you a good deal you did very well my friend. LOL We had more WATES on that trip than leica has in stock. rsh Posted October 10, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 10, 2007 The Wide Angle Tri Elmar is a great lens, but the price increase put in at a price I am unwilling to pay. Of course that may change.
dfarkas Posted October 10, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 10, 2007 I dunno Guy. You may be able to bend my arm for your own purposes... I also still have the WATE without the finder as well for a much better price... Hmm... tough decisions. Mark, I told in Munich you got a great deal... and not to tell anyone. Glad you're enjoying it. David

canlogic Posted October 10, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 10, 2007 I ordered a wate under the 30% off deal from Leica and still have not heard anything back from them. I know they said it would take awhile but I thought I would have heard something by now.
c6gowin Posted October 10, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 10, 2007 You are right Guy. I think we all had WATEs in Germany and we put them to good use. I wish I had another M8 body becuase I really liked having the WATE on the borrowed M8 and a mid or long lens on my M8. That is a great combination. David, I don't know if I thanked you for selling me the WATE and Frankenfinder with anything more than a check. Thank you. I really enjoy that lens. It took me and Guy both twisting your arm to for you sell your WATE to me. I hope you don't regret it, after all you are in business to sell Leicas (perhaps not your personal stuff though). Maybe you should just take the WATE you have left in stock for yourself before someone on here buys it.
jrc Posted October 10, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 10, 2007 I wish I had another M8 body becuase I really liked having the WATE on the borrowed M8 and a mid or long lens on my M8. That is a great combination. I almost bought a second body for that reason -- a WATE on one, a Nocti on the other. I think a 66mm equivalent Nocti is better than a 50mm, though I fear God will strike me dead for saying that. JC Edit: though it just occurred to me that if I did that, and was walking around with $21,000 worth of equipment under my arm, I'd probably fall in a f***in' lake. Jack_Flesher Posted October 10, 2007 Share #11 Posted October 10, 2007 I almost bought a second body for that reason -- a WATE on one, a Nocti on the other. I think a 66mm equivalent Nocti is better than a 50mm, though I fear God will strike me dead for saying that. I really like the 50 on the M8 --- my favorite pair, the 28 Cron and 50 Lux. If the mood suits, I might dust off the Nocti and mount it up
marknorton Posted October 10, 2007 Share #12 Posted October 10, 2007 The price increase means that it is almost exactly double what it cost to buy under the 30% discount scheme. Yikes. I realised a couple of days ago that I haven't paid normal retail for any of the lenses I've bought since the Tri-Elmar 9 years ago - Hong Kong, second-hand, 30% discount scheme, I've been cushioned from the full price and much as I would like a fast wide-angle, or a Leica update to the Zeiss Distagon, I'm quite sure I wouldn't like the price. dseelig Posted October 10, 2007 Share #13 Posted October 10, 2007 The day after the price increase announcement i called popflash they said they could get me one at the old price. the one fly in the ointment I had to leave a substanial deposit 1400 bucks . They got me one in about 5 weeks. And since they said 3895 the older price with the frankenfinder they gave it to me at 3895 even though it had previousily gone up to 3995. So thanks Tony and Alex. My buddy who called after me got the second one they had also at 3895 .

endustry Posted October 10, 2007 Share #15 Posted October 10, 2007 I had intended to wait (no pun intended) but something inside told me that I had to buy one RIGHT NOW (this was six months ago.) After two hours of picking through Google results, I found a small shop in Michigan (Adray Camera) that actually had a copy physically in-stock. Nice folks, too. After a polite phone conversation with the shop's owner, I had the lens in two days. The lens has been wonderful to use w/ my M8 and my MP. I now tout it to my wife as my "$3895 bargain" to which she just rolls her eyes.
woodyspedden Posted October 10, 2007 Share #16 Posted October 10, 2007 This just hurts my wallet looking at it. Wow Leica | Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 Asph. Lens (6-Bit) | 11642 | Hey Guy After shooting with the "loaner" WATE in Germany I opted to purchase my 30% off lens as a WATE! How great was this! Problem is that I love the lens so much I can't yet bring myself to sell it. God what a money sink Good for you Mark. Thanks to David Woody Spedden
rsh Posted October 10, 2007 Share #17 Posted October 10, 2007 It would be nice to own one, but not at this price. It is not a case of not affording, but rather a case of not willing pay this much for a lens.

marknorton Posted October 10, 2007 Share #19 Posted October 10, 2007 Thinking about it some more, the price of the WATE is truly frightening. Ball park, about the cost of an M8 or a Nikon D3.
Eoin Posted October 10, 2007 Share #20 Posted October 10, 2007 What are you moaning about:D if you were living in Europe the price is US$6360. You just don't understand how lucky you are. :)
