proenca Posted December 2, 2022 Share #1 Â Posted December 2, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, Super excited for my Leica SL2 to arrive and so far I have a few M lenses and want to get a wide/super wide. so , two contestants : 16-35 F from Panasonic or 14-24 from Sigma ART - prefer the later, has everything I want but not see any reviews or posts about this lens - I would use it for landscapes and some travel shots - and yes, tge 16-35 is smaller and lighter but I prefer the extra 2mm and 2.8. Advertisement Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Hi proenca, Take a look here Sigma 14-24 on SL2 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Virob Posted December 2, 2022 Share #2  Posted December 2, 2022 I don’t have the Sigma 14-24 but do have the P16-35. It is generally considered that the S14-24 is optically superior. So if that is your primary interest, the Sigma is an excellent choice. I picked the P16-35 because in addition to being smaller/lighter with a more useful focal range (for me), I often use ND and polarizing filters for landscapes and it is more convenient to carry one set of square/rectangular filters that works with all my lenses. The S14-24 only takes drop in filters.
KPD Posted December 2, 2022 Share #3  Posted December 2, 2022 I recently purchased the Sigma 14-24 Art. Having come to Leica from Sony, I was familiar with the Art Series of Lenses from Sigma. I had previously owned the Leica 16-35 which is a fine lens but found it much too heavy to carry as well as being expensive. The Sigma 14-24 Art performs outstandingly well on the SL2. The constant 2.8 aperture and image resolution sold me.
beewee Posted December 3, 2022 Share #4  Posted December 3, 2022 (edited) The Sigma 14-24/2.8 DG DN is very sharp, even wide open. It’s really great for astrophotography but I find the bulbous front element is too prone to lens flare when shooting on bright sunny days. Optically, it is as good, if not better than the Leica 16-35 SL but I only use the Sigma for astro and stick with the 16-35 SL for daylight shooting because it handles flare much better. Using this to save wight end go less bulky when needed and go wider than my Leica 16-35. A perfect choise for the SL. Welcome, dear visitor! RBB Posted December 7, 2022 Share #8  Posted December 7, 2022 It is a very good lens, I not a wide angle person, for landscape I use 24-90 most of the time, if I'm running out of space then I take the sigma. Manicouagan1 Posted December 12, 2022 Share #9  Posted December 12, 2022 The lens works well with my SL2.  A fun aspect of the 14mm focal length is that it covers most of the outer ring of a double rainbow.  Lightroom's corrections work pretty well.  This image has -100 Vertical Transform applied as well as Lightroom's corrections for this lens.  Welcome, dear visitor! Manicouagan1 Posted December 12, 2022 Share #11 Â Posted December 12, 2022 Simple: the rainbow picture was taken in 2020, perspective control was not added to SL2 firmware until September 2022. Â Â
jonoslack Posted December 13, 2022 Share #12 Â Posted December 13, 2022 I've had the 14-24 for a while now (most of my other SL lenses are Leica . . . erm . . . all of them!) I think it's a great lens - no sort of compromise. best Jono 1
Sjz Posted December 14, 2022 Share #13  Posted December 14, 2022 *word of caution if you enjoy using filters, they go at the camera end of the lens - I find that an absoloute pain. Other than that, I am a fan.

proenca Posted January 1, 2023 Author Share #15  Posted January 1, 2023 Sometimes it annoys me to death that people start threads, ask questions and then the "final followup" isnt there. Guess I felt for that trap on my own thread So in the end, I caved in and bough the Sigma Art 14-24 because of few reasons : - was a store demo. price was unbelievable good. - I did a test drive with it to ensure the weight was manageable ( hey, I'm a 20+ years Leica M shooter, everything in the SL seems humongus, that said, I had a S2 once lol ) and it was - while not the most featherweight thing, it balances well - with the test drive two things were clear : the glass is perfect at any focal lenght and the focus is fast - I want to do astro so the 2.8 is a big plus. So there we go, I bought it. Fast foward now three weeks of getting it ( and being so far the only SL lens apart from the 45mm which I'm somewhat of some sort happy with , until my SL35 doesn't arrive ) I'm very very happy with the image quality I get from it - super sharp in corners , great pop, lovely AF. The only complain is not having a front filter system - I got lucky and found a store selling the last Haida rear filters complete in a promotion, so I got them - didnt used them yet, will report back. But so far, the picture quality is superb - very very happy with it. Here's a photo of my son on his birthday few days ago : picture isn't the most interesting photo material ( for you, for me its precious ) but you can judge what this lens does in real world scenario - overcast, 14mm focal lenght, f4.0, 1/80 and ISO 200 : Welcome, dear visitor! dem331 Posted March 4, 2023 Share #16  Posted March 4, 2023 It’s a wonderful lens that I find hard to use well given that I tend to use it at the wider end since for 24mm I use the 24-90mm.  But I do not find that it flares as much as I would expect. Here is a test shot at 19mm: Welcome, dear visitor!
