Paul2660 Posted November 11, 2022 Share #1  Posted November 11, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was taking some video tests the other day with the 90-280 and SL2-S.  At 280mm, it was very clear that the lens stabilization was not working all the time, during the video.  When I panned the camera, the shot was very stable and clear, but when I stopped and then left the camera and lens centered on a subject, I can see slight camera shake in the video.  I was on a tripod which offered plenty of support.  I have noticed that this happens on tripod often while taking stills, i.e. the lens stabilization or in camera IBIS stops working unless I gently shake the camera body.  With the video the shake is very distracting.  I don't have a gimbal and would not want to use one unless totally the only solution.  What are others doing with a longer lens and video with eh SL2-S to keep the image stable.  Paul
Advertisement Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Hi Paul2660, Take a look here SL2-S Video stabilization with 90-280 (question). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
danielsalazarhopps Posted January 1, 2023 Share #2  Posted January 1, 2023 It may be that you have to turn IBIS off and use a really good professional tripod. Lots of times IBIS does not work for certain scenarios, this could be one of them. IBIS is part of the tool but sometimes not your answer.
LocalHero1953 Posted January 1, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted January 1, 2023 I didn't see the OP earlier. I have not tried the SL2-S and 90-280 on a tripod, but I did with the SL (i.e. OIS only). It was very clear the two do not work well together, and the common recommendation to turn off IS when you are on a tripod is valid. I tried to take stills, not video, and while trying to get a distant shot I could see the view drifting.
jaapv Posted January 1, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted January 1, 2023 As far as I am aware, most if not all camera makers advise turning stabilization off when using the camera on a tripod.

Yes, though I think there are some of the newer ones that detect when they are on a tripod and turn off IS automatically.
Photoworks Posted January 1, 2023 Share #6 Â Posted January 1, 2023 The SL2 can detect if it is on tripod. Image stabilization combination of sensor and in lens is determined by the camera what to use, there is no way of influencing which one to use. the only option is to turn of IBIS There is a panning option to set in camera. If you turn it all off you need a good tripod head to get smooth video
