Cancelled it with Leica Manchester.  Already paid for it - nice price shipped to the USA.  But they have no idea when they are getting them, and even though I ordered on same day of the announcement, I was #11 on their list...

But I still bought one.  If you want a new Leica, the first place you  should check is your country's Leica website.  Not an official dealer or Leica Store, but Leica's actual website.

For me it is https://leicacamerausa.com/photography/cameras-by-type/camera-type/rangefinder/analog/

There was zero stock yesterday.  Nothing this morning.  I refreshed the site about an hour ago and one was available. Bought, done, now none are available.

So have that site open in your browser, and refresh occasionally and see what happens.  When you hover over the items it shows "Quick View", "Notify Me" or.. "Add to Cart".

Interestingly in the US the M6 is $400 cheaper than the MP, while in the UK it is 100 GBP more expensive than the MP.  So my price differential/savings dropped.  Buying in the US cost me $1000 more than if I waited for Leica Manchester to eventually ship, with no ETA.  Yes, it is more expensive but I actually get a camera, and as I am paying tax now, do not have to deal with any possible repercussions later.

This is not a ding on Leica Manchester  - they were delightful to work with.  It's just that Leica's business practice is basically to sell this camera directly before distributing to their dealers.  I am sure they do this with all their products.

Congratulations! It's great to know it will be loaded with film and used as it should be, not just ending up in a safe deposit box or on the auction site for a ridiculous price. Have fun with it!

Funny, I signed up on the Leica USA site a couple of days ago to be notified when the camera is in stock.  I did not receive an email when the camera became available. So much for their alert system 🙂

Glad you got one, enjoy it!

Huss, I am using an Android tablet. Seems that my Android is not compatible with Leica's website???

I'm just chilling, this who l e thing is starting to piss me off. I will see, but if Leica is selling direct, and that's the only avenue that stinks. I suspect by February there won't be any lines, B&H will have them etc.

We shall see. Did you pay sales tax?

Congrats.  I agree with others that the whole process of 'trying' to hand over money for these items (body as well as Steel Rim reissue) is a bit annoying, especially if you've made efforts to be anywhere near the top of a list or sign up for alerts, etc etc.  A bit off-putting in fact .

Looking forward to hearing of your experience with the camera though and congrats !

Yes paid tax as this is sold in the US.  With tax the total was $1000 more than what I paid for my tax not included order from the UK.  And if DHL reports the import ( who knows?) I’d have a tax bill there too.  I just wasn't cool with dealerships having no idea when they’ll get shipments, and how many.

Leica direct is not the only avenue - one member here got his from a shop in WA - but it seems to be the primary at the moment.

Not the only: Red Dot Cameras as well.

Are you sure? I think the Manchester store has some enhanced status (and ties) in the hierarchy of Leica dealers. Maybe why Red Dot can offer new Leica fit lenses from other brands.

Possibly it does - but I was responding to the reference to "the only independent Leica shop in the UK". Red Dot is independent of Leica, supplied by Leica and its strapline is as a Leica dealer. But I have no brief for either store - I'm just going on what I see.

Just FYI Leica Manchester is the only independent Leica shop in the UK, it's not an actual Leica owned shop like the others. Nice people there, bought an MA from them once.

Not correct. Red Dot in London is also independent. To their credit, Leica Manchester provided a Leica on Loan facility to attendees, many from the US, at the recent Leica Society International (formerly  LHSA) conference in Dublin. The cameras were sourced from Leica Akademie Austria and delivered to Dublin which is also in the EU. The Manchester guys came to Dublin, on a boat, to administer the camera loans. Brexit was the cause of all of those fancy manoeuvres. Some of the comments above on the price of the new M6 need to be viewed in the light of various tax regimes, but I am sure that most here know that.

I don't need the 'new' M6 as I have had an 'old' one for about 11 years and it is a great camera. Stefan Daniel allowed me to use his copy of the 'new' M6 in Dublin and it too felt just right.

I find the rush to go on waiting lists for an almost 40 year old camera design intriguing. There are a lot of copies of the 'old' M6 available everywhere.

I think what he may be referring to is that Leica themselves classify the Manchester store as a "Leica Store" and Red Dot as a "Leica Boutique". Semantics, but strictly correct.

Important thing is they are both excellent!

This is how they define them according to https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/dealer-locator :

Leica Store

Our Leica stores are where you will find the entire range of Leica products. Experience first hand the Leica brand, its culture and its products. They are also a meeting place for Leica enthusiasts and anyone else wishing to exchange experiences, views and opinions on photography and wildlife observation. Several stores are also home to an integrated gallery in which you can enjoy the best of Leica photography in constantly changing exhibitions of the work of prominent photographers.

Leica Boutique

Our Leica Boutiques can be found around the world in premium department stores, at selected photographic dealers, at airports and in shopping malls. Here, you can find a large selection of Leica products.

Authorized Dealer

A selection of Leica photographic and sport optics products can be found at authorised Leica dealer stores.

Yeah, imagine begging to pay $5000 on a camera!  Lucky Leica...
