lmans Posted October 23, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some of us already have a working original M6...or a M we are comfy with.... Be it an original or the MP or whatever. How many of us who have originals or other M's are going to look at buying the M6? How many out there that do not have one will buy? For me....I have my original but wow, it is tempting. I have a Panda version of a M6....it would be nice have a black one .... other improvements are minor but still improvements. Again, tempting.

Mikep996 Posted October 23, 2022 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2022 I've done a total 180 on this subject in just a few days. Then: "Why would I even drag out my old M6 and shoot film again for the first time in 20 years, let alone buy a new one?" Now: I placed an order for a new M6, trading in my M10. 🙄 6
lmans Posted October 23, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted October 23, 2022 I don't think I would ever sell my old M6....it is a classic. But to buy the new black version?.... I am with you

But the more I watch the YouTube videos on the new M6 and read the post-announce threads here, something is starting to stir inside me Maybe best to just close the laptop and go out and shoot pictures with my M-A... LocalHero1953 Posted October 23, 2022 Share #10 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) I am a declared 'no'. I have four Leica film cameras, all acquired in the last couple of years, all loaded with different films and all with slightly different functionality: Leica II Model D (Delta 400), Leica Standard (Delta 3200), Leica IIf (XP2) and M4 (Portra). Despite using them all quite a lot, I have a long way to go before I have a settled understanding of how they all behave and the workflow I should use. So I have no need for a M6 and it might actually, as a distraction, slow my progress in re-learning film. Nevertheless ............ wouldn't it be nice to have a film body with a built-in exposure meter? Perhaps for Portra 160 with my Summilux 35 pre-asph v2, with Portra 400 in the M4 with my Summilux 50 pre-asph? The last camera I had like that was a Pentax MX, which I loved (fully mechanical, with a simple and quick meter that worked in the same intuitive way). Me, I’d shoot E-6 in that new M6. Edited October 23, 2022 by oldwino
Guest Posted October 23, 2022 Share #12 Posted October 23, 2022 Why? It’s based on the MP, I may as well buy that, if I was to buy a new film Leica. At the moment I’m happy with my M4-P and M10-R.
spydrxx Posted October 23, 2022 Share #13 Posted October 23, 2022 I hated the M6 I once owned, so no interest in acquiring a new version. I'll stick with my M2 and Barnacks.
Ouroboros Posted October 23, 2022 Share #14 Posted October 23, 2022 Since it seems that the self-destruction of all MP's and M-A's is now imminent, the M6 is clearly timed to save us all. Smart move by Leica.

You got to four M film cameras Before 'need' entered the equation? 😀
mahakalaka Posted October 23, 2022 Share #16 Posted October 23, 2022 I might. 🤷♂️ I have an a la carte MP which I love. I wear glasses and only shot with a 35mm lens for years, so I ordered it with the 0.58 viewfinder. Lately I’ve been using more 50mm and would kind of like the larger magnification. Considered replacing the viewfinder on my MP, but not sure if I’d regret it. I haven’t been following new cameras for a while and was surprised when I saw the new M6 show up in an email. Definitely tempting. I also have an M10-P which I never use. Switched to Sony a while ago and for me it’s a vastly better option. Leicas are still a whole lot of fun though and film M’s are a pure pleasure. For digital they don’t make a whole lot of sense for me anymore, so thinking of maybe seeing if I could trade my M10-P for an M6.

105012 Posted October 23, 2022 Share #19 Posted October 23, 2022 Certainly great to see the new M6 and it will surely sell well. It will bring much joy to many! The M3 is the best M for my preferences and photography requirements, so I won’t be buying one of these, however really happy that Leica made this move. I found myself wondering about selling the M4, buying a M2 and a new M6, thereby averaging out at M4 again. When I first became interested in Leicas, the M4-2, way out of my income bracket, was the current model, so I bought a M3 (replaced later by a M2). So I'm kind of happy that I now have a M4, whatever the current hot model. Edit: And while four film cameras is a bit OTT, I enjoy going out with each one, one lens and one roll of film, with an idea of how best to bring out the best in that particular combination.
