I generally don't like vintage lenses, but this little sucker is growing on me.

I will be getting this lens soon, was wondering if there's any 3rd party lens cap that can fit over the hood? I will be using it with the M6, don't want to burn through the shutter cloth during daytime shoot.

Welcome!  Someone else suggested this Contax solution and I find it works very well, and also looks good.  Leave the Leica hoods in the box and buy this hood and hood cap.

Hej guys, I somehow became infatuated with this lens. Annoyingly, I missed out on a really great promotional offer (3.160 EUR brand new). Now I'm searching the net for a good used offer. I might have found one, but I think it might be one of the earliest lenses with only one lens hood. I think these had some issues. What should I look out for when I go and test it? Or should I just bite the bullet and go for a new one? (The shop with said offer would sell me one for 3.500.)

I think the original batch not only had the one lens hood issue, but also lots of play/wiggle room in the aperture ring. A couple of month ago I bought a new copy from an independent Leica store in Rancho Mirage CA. Before doing so, the owner to whom I spoke checked the manufacture date on his inventory and got me his latest copy - 12/23 manufacture date. Happily my copy is flawless, not just in terms of optics (which I'm crazy about at f1.4) but also manufacture - the aperture ring is solid/secure. And of course I got the new version of the hood - which I don't use anyway, instead preferring a clear ND filter.

Leica Store Miami has a used one in stock.
They are a reputable shop.

Another one on M11P. This lens is surprisingly sharp wide open, and resistant to fringing.
