MarkP Posted October 3, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I bought a 1956 3.5/5cm Red Scale Elmar and the extraordinary VALOO earlier this year. It was to use with a IIIf which I think has unfortunately been lost forever to that black hole that is Camera Obscura Repairs UK - another story for another time 🙄. The lens has minor fogging and cleaning marks and has not yet been serviced. I'd held off testing the lens till I got the IIIf back which will now probably never happen 😪 I finally decided to test the lens on my M10 today. Amazing IQ for a 66 year old lens... Pyrogallol Posted October 3, 2022 Share #3 Posted October 3, 2022 (edited) Don’t bother getting it cleaned. On film you won’t notice the slight softening of contrast that you can increase in printing. And on digital you will be tweaking the results in Photoshop anyway. Not to mention that every scene you photograph will have different lighting and contrast to any other picture. Most of the time I am using older lenses and when I do use a more modern one I have to get used to the higher contrast and crispness of the negatives. jankap Posted October 4, 2022 Share #5 Posted October 4, 2022 Don't worry about the 66 years. It was/is a quality product. By the way please note the used f-stop to the pictures. If it is an f/3.5 picture or an f/8 picture makes a large difference in the comparison new to old age.
