Keith (M) Posted September 28, 2022 Share #1 Â Posted September 28, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Am looking to source ND, yellow & orange filters but E49 ones are a little scarce. I had thought to use a 49mm - 52mm step-up ring (as I have 52mm filters) but the lens hood will not fit over a 52mm filter. Â Does anyone have experience with using the requisite 49mm filters - i.e. are slim-line ones necessary or are standard size filters suitable? Advertisement Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Hi Keith (M), Take a look here 50mm Noctilux f1.2 & Filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Gelatino Posted September 28, 2022 Share #2  Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) From my Nikon Ai time I have some 52mm filters left. I bought 39-52, 46-52, 49-52 step-ups for 4 or 5$ on the Bay to use it on my different M-lenses. I still have an old collapsible rubber hood in 52mm I could put on the filter, but I never did it as it is a one more item to carry, put on/off etc...  that is not what you asked for 😉, but it is what I ended to do, not to buy new filters in 39, 46, and 49 mm. Aryel Posted September 28, 2022 Share #4  Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) I bought Heliopan filters in 49mm for mine (ordered from fotoimpex).  nd, yellow and red . No issue and the hood still fit. I am sure they manufacture orange as well. Hope this helps 😊 Edited September 28, 2022 by Aryel

Breakthrough Photography ND filters are by far the best I have tried. Â Totally neutral. Â I've found the 3 stop to be the most useful on the Noctilux, as it allows fully open aperture in most lighting conditions. Â The 49mm is in stock here: https://breakthrough.photography/products/x4-neutral-density?variant=30849453777 They also have a UK website but shipping from the US is quick. 1
tightsqueez Posted September 28, 2022 Share #6  Posted September 28, 2022 I use the B+W 007 clear nano, B+W 022 yellow mrc and Hoya green filter. All fit with hood perfectly. No issues. The Hoya is cheap junk but it works.  It’s good to know because I’ve never used the hood once. Why? Because it doesn’t need a hood. Well, ask me again once it starts snowing. 😉
Keith (M) Posted September 29, 2022 Author Share #7 Â Posted September 29, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for all the suggestions etc. Â It occurred to me that there was one possible source that I had forgotten about so a quick look on their website revealed a B+W orange filter. Â As to an ND filter, I'm hoping to replace the 60mm 6-stop variable one that I had for my f1 v4 with the 49mm version. Â

I have the first version of the f1.0. It's a lovely lens, sharper than the 1.2 but I'll be honest... I never use it because of it's size.

fabior Posted September 30, 2022 Share #10  Posted September 30, 2022 I use a Hoya PROND ND16 49mm  and is 4stops less. I am satisfied but inevitably increases the fall of light at the edges and the use of a smaller aperture of 4 apertures is indicated in the photo file. At list with my M10R.
pippy Posted October 1, 2022 Share #11  Posted October 1, 2022 As far as the ND goes there are numerous third party manufacturers who make them in 49mm thread. This variable ND (1 to 9 stops) one looks quite a decent effort; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313460565078?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110018%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.COMPLISTINGS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20210609144404%26meid%3D78ea8b411a1a49f5ad22e3cb3b50b869%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D144665488945%26itm%3D313460565078%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPopularItemsWithSimpleRanker&_trksid=p2047675.c101196.m2219&amdata=cksum%3A31346056507878ea8b411a1a49f5ad22e3cb3b50b869|enc%3AAQAHAAAA8A7MsZABwLuaVPSMs%2FTholPj6Yl%2BKviZkjBwf4Ot%2FuQXeLOpIwxH%2Fw7XQQL3xZoONswND7a0JL9%2Bt7Dtdc7uIaCvaTwCZj0s%2BZANFfjpriY2ofiU392qYrIhV2NPXPLj9au5dTFhfIJaFaCZ3a6%2FAAhpFSEEq4Sfrs4IFHjnjoWbM6tB%2BWj6gWkMHXvMPJwf81j2L4UpUyb1miyV8cYyre0zw%2BLqgtYS2%2F%2FHg1RB4A4xFD%2Fjmbbu9l2LfhFnh0dq4eW%2Brh91fVfnvbx7pCd7P8OjeU%2BZ7bKAe%2F1Bt2ukdf%2FL4b8MsozBp3Iag3f2boSSDA%3D%3D|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2047675 Remember that for a very long period of time Asahi Pentax used 49 thread as their 'standard option' so if you don't mind buying used these can also be found on the web.
