I'm not even a Leica fanboy (but that may have just changed). I think the new M6 is beautiful. I really like it and I think they hit it out of the park with this one. I'm seriously trying to figure out how to afford one. Looks like I'll have time. Maybe by the time I have enough money saved up, there will be a chrome option available. That would be my preference. Sure, it would have been nice if it were less expensive but, I'm really glad that Leica made the best product they could. That's what they do. That's what we want them to do. That's what is expected. Anything less would have been...well, a disappointment. I agree, its very beautiful as all Ms are.  It remains to be seen how "best product they could" it is.  I have had terrible QC issues with Leica in recent years, an M10P ASC without a working touch screen that spent more time in Germany than with me.  An MA and MP with rangefinder patches that were out of alignment out of the box.  I hope its the camera everyone who wants one hopes it is. 21 minutes ago, Anbaric said: It has the 'modern' wind and rewind, which were seen as improvements when the M4 came out. The MP retro style may be prettier to some, but the rewind is slower. If I'd had the spare cash and inclination to buy an MP when the à la carte programme was active, this is essentially the camera I'd have ended up with, give or take the engravings. For those with other preferences, the MP is still available. Leica might have chosen to make the new M6 slightly cheaper than the MP for marketing purposes, but they didn't. It was never going to be the super-cheap version that some people hoped for. The film rewind I understand, I have a love/hate relationship with the MP rewind.  The film advance, I prefer the MP.  I wasn't hoping for super cheap, just appreciably cheaper than the MP 9 minutes ago, jsrockit said: Some people really prefer the M6.  Some people like the red dot.  Some people just are not you.  You say it will likely be sold out but it is swing and miss regarding price?  How can both be true?  Lastly, there will never be another cheap Leica.  They are a luxury brand with luxury stores in the luxury zones of numerous cities.  Thats perfectly fine, people can like what they like.  I am just expressing my opinions on what I feel about this release.  I said, I think its a swing and a miss in terms of price, others who are not me, might feel differently.  I think it will be sold out because lets be real, its a new Leica, every new release is sold out for months or more because its Leica and because their production capacity is limited.   In MY OPINION, its too expensive, I cannot personally justify it for any reason.  Others might feel differently.    Im going to finish by saying this. I may have come off abrasive when I first posted, for that I am sorry.  However, I stand my opinions on the camera, it is not for me.  For the people who will buy it and love it, Im happy for you.   I am not trying to shoot down your love of the M6, I used to like them a lot, when they were 1500-2000$.  When they crept up past 3000$, they because harder to justify over an MP.  I still dont fully understand the reasoning for this camera at this price point, but im done posting for now

logan2z Posted October 20, 2022 Share #1063  Posted October 20, 2022 I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about re: price. Leica did release a cheaper film camera in the M6 Reissue. The M-A is $5595, the MP is $5695. At $5295, the M6 Reissue is the cheapest camera in the lineup

lekitr Posted October 20, 2022 Share #1065  Posted October 20, 2022 I've just checked the quick start manual.  The French version state that the shutter is controlled electronically (électroniquement). The English one is ok" mechanical" as is the Italian and Spanish one.  Maybe the French will have a m7 chassis lol

We are all different, some like red dots and logos, some don't. Some prefer the old style of film advance and rewind levers, some just the opposite. It should be noted that we are members of a Leica Forum and that there are many Leica users out there that are not (and would never consider joining), we are a minority view and Leica look to the bigger picture. I probably won't be buying the new M6, not because I don't like it, but because I have a M6TTL, M7 and MP3. To buy more would be rather overkill I think 🙂 I’ve owned an early M6, a bubbly TTL and a Millennium. I love my M4 and really have no need for the new M6 but would still like to try one out for a few rolls.

But plenty will buy for sure. Oh well… So what should be different or new? An M6 classic in up-to-date materials and with modern electronics is as close to a perfect product as you can get.

If there's a demand from pre-orders etc., they'll make them, and the model hasn't been deleted as far as we know. Switching from one to the other is much less hassle than building all those combinations of à la carte models used to be, but they are probably concentrating on the M6 right now to meet the expected demand. I'm just speculating, but since writing my post I see @jonoslack has written this. This new M6 may have been pushed on them at least partly by a tightening supply chain for MP parts (post #10 in case the forum takes you to the wrong one):   Edited October 20, 2022 by LocalHero1953 1
Mikep996 Posted October 20, 2022 Share #1079  Posted October 20, 2022 In looking at the newly-posted M6 info on the Leica site and looking at my early M6 (Leitz); they appear identical externally.  I guess that was the point.  Since there are M6's/M6TTLs  readily available used for half the price, I don't really see the market.  OTOH, if I wanted to buy a new film camera and didn't have my M6, I would probably buy the new M6 simply because of how much I liked the original.  It was my favorite of all my various film cameras through the years...which is why it is the only one I kept after switching to digital in '01-'02. The M6s seem to have a lot of "boosting" on the internet in the past year by fairly young people getting into film so maybe that had a lot to do with Leica's decision to "remake" it.

This is the conundrum of film vs digital. The downside is the film body less effect on the final results than the film. That is also the upside.
