Recessed screws on the pressure plate. The MP/M-A screws are (annoyingly) at the same level as the pressure plate surface. Doesn't the original M6 have no screws on the pressure plate?

Apparently he was on the Nikon SP 2005 project and is still mad that Leica succeeded where the Nikon RF cameras failed.

The Nikon? Well I like them (not sure about the arbiters of Cool). But I haven't managed to buy a working one yet - sent two back with faulty shutters. The FM and FM2 seem like a safer bet 40 years later.

Ok, so I ordered one from the UK.  With the current exchange rate it is $1400 cheaper than if I bought it in the US.  Comes w full international warranty, not like the nonsense companies like Nikon do.

No idea when it will show up..

So, it's a stupid idea but you couldn't keep from ordering one. Yeah, that makes sense. Good thing it wasn't a new M7.

The dumbest thing I ever heard of.  Take an MP.  Stick an M6 logo on it.  Pretend it’s a new camera with magic special internals.

But matt black paint on brass? Gimmeeeeeeee!  I finally have a camera worthy of my TTA 28mm 5.6 black paint which looks to have an identical finish.  Matt black over brass.

My guess is no because the meter changed with the new M6.

Leica’s marketing director said yes to that in an interview today, but we’ll have to wait and see if that was accurate.

The classic M6 had just the two arrows for exposure indication, while the new one has two arrows and the dot, like the MP and M6TTL.

It would be interesting to see how the new meter board would work with the old M6.

Could be two versions of the same board or the board could be cross compatible. Just speculating obviously.

They'd have to replace the LED display in the viewfinder, the circuit board, and the probably the photo transistor.  It's gonna be pricey to have Leica do it.

It's been a deciding moment in R&D

......Has LEICA gone the way of Apple and royally shafted previous M6 buyers / re-secured the M6 domination that so rightfully should be theirs mwahahahhahahah.     

Or..... Are they truly a company of the people and will follow up said vintage M6 light meter repairs with a complimentary new brass top-plate and a Christmas card in the mail  ?     

Either way I am looking forward to the Netflix documentary and disgruntled whistleblower accounts. Cue blacked out hotel room interview and disguised voice: "I told them in 2020 we should make it cross-compatible, especially if the marketing spin was going to be that we care"

Okay, so I was looking, planning on getting a new M-A or MP and now I'm concerned with the change to a new body/internals that they may not support that model any longer. Does anyone else have concerns of repairability issues with either M-A or MP? Maybe this is tied to the rumor about Leica no longer supplying parts to third parties? I like the new M6, the paint mainly, but would prefer the M-A or MP style...hmm.

I wouldn't be at all concerned about repairability of an M-A.  I mean, an M3 (mostly)/M2/M4 can be repaired so an M-A should be no problem.  I honestly don't think I'd worry about an MP either.  In the absolutely worst case, if the meter can't be repaired at some point in time the camera is otherwise fully functional.  I'd just buy the camera you like best.

I think some further clarification is needed whether the M6 is 1) new componentry (versus the MP) , or 2) simply "new to the M6" (i.e. marketing spin and identical to MP).  The initial leaks after a product meeting last week said it was an MP inside.

Thanks, good advice for sure. I would like to hear about the actual changes but I tend to agree since I have a 1962 M and it's still functionally perfect (after some service of course). Thanks again!
