So, the MP meter was used to fix broken M6 Classic meters, and now the new M6 Reissue meters are going to be used to fix broken MP meters?

If you’re wondering whether the chicken came before the egg, the omelettes in Leica Park cafeteria have feathers in them.

As the new M6 has new electronics, will we be finally able to set lens profiles?

Yeah, using the menu … oh, hang on.

I am a bit surprised that this new M6 doesn’t have aperture priority (as did the M7, and all the M digitals).  Did any of the M6 iterations have aperture priority?  I seem to recall that the M5 did …

M5 is manual w spot metering.  And to this very day has more exposure information in the vf than any other Leica M, film or digital!

I like the camera and think that the brass top, mp quality viewfinder (and top engraving, despite being available on some originals) all make really nice upgrades to an original M6 .

As some have mentioned I think this is really about adding an offering for those new buyers who want what is cool “now” to the product line, and I hope this runs alongside MP and M-A for many years

Overall, the price is a difficult one to get the head around. It’s AUD $8350 here and not long ago black paint MP’s were $7500. On the one hand since it’s the quality of an MP then it’s not difficult to understand.  But a cheaper price point  may have made more sense as well as positioning the glossy MP as a premium product

Overall as someone with a few M’s already including an MP which I really like - my main takeaway from the thread is that I’m searching for a great condition Rolleiflex, and it will seem extremely cheap when I purchase it !

No, just the M7. Apparently battery-dependent film cameras with any level of automation aren't Cool, unless they are overpriced luxury P&S models that get gushing reviews from the right people on YouTube.

It’s a new Leica M, or at least a variation on the existing theme.  Nothing wrong with that, but the ‘guarantee’ of indefinite spare parts and repairs is something I take with a pinch of salt.

When I bought my MP 16 years ago, Leica assured us that spares would be available for a minimum of 30 years or something like that, can’t remember the exact assurance.  Frankly, it’s all marketing bullshit and as we all now know, things can change in the blink of an eye  due to unprecedented world events. Economies and supply chains have proven to be more fragile than most of us ever could have thought.

I hope those who buy this M6 reissue are able to enjoy using it for many years.  I’m sure it is as good a camera as the MP and M-A are.

Personally, I’m much more interested in the reissue of the 35mm ‘Steel Rim’ summilux than the M6 and that’s where my money would go.

Well said.

I saw on the Leica online store here in AUS that the M6 reissue is the same price as the MP. It’s all brass so from a price point it makes sense, even though the MP does look more luxurious.

I also agree with you that Leica missed a chance to lower the cost a little bit and actually compete with the second hand Leica M6 market and had the chance to steal some new customers.

Yep I agree, I think the price gap looks huge for general observers who perhaps wouldn’t know about the differences in nuts, bolts and top plates that get discussed here

A number of years back, I built my "perfect" M6. I got it for a song for less than $900 as a cosmetically perfect M6TTL that had a bad meter connection in the shutter speed dial, it would disappear from 1/30th to 1/125. So I had DAG overhaul it and that included the black logo, MP flare resistant finder optics and the entire film advance. It's been fantastic ever since.

If I did not already have my perfect "ride" I would possibly ante up for this fantastic re-issue. It just feels good to know Leica pays attention to this kind of thing in photography, it helps keep photography important.

DAG and Sherry must have made fortune on those flare fix upgrades. Everyone and his cousin got that fix at some point and the price wasn't all that bad.
Don did my M6ttl and Sherry the M7.

This new M6 is really stupid.  Let's just accept that.

Ok, so I ordered one from the UK.  With the current exchange rate it is $1400 cheaper than if I bought it in the US.  Comes w full international warranty, not like the nonsense companies like Nikon do.

No idea when it will show up..
