you’re assuming it is an oversight but, yeah….

There are quite a few possible reasons why, apparently, only men have engaged in the subject business transaction.  My point is very simply that none of us knows the reason or reasons. Not me. Not you. Not Huss. None of us.  And therefore, blindly insisting that Leica is the antagonist to one’s socio-political ideology is…uh, ugly and ‘not good’.

Sometimes the most obvious answer is the most obvious answer.  50% of the population are women.

0% limited edition Leicas.

Spin it how you want it.

I'm trying to think of any world-famous non-male photographer who was / is known, predominantly, for using Leica rangefinder cameras. Inge Morath certainly used M3 / M4 / M6 cameras quite often. Leni Riefenstahl used various 'Barnacks' as well as M2 / M3 cameras but the majority of female photographers whose names spring to my mind either used, in the main, 35mm SLRs; a Rolleiflex; a Hasselblad or something larger-format.

This truly warms my heart.

Right!  And the fact that the Fuji 200 and 400 color film I just bought says made in Japan, use by 2024.  Which means they are making it again.  For a short period of time the 200 was Made in the USA which meant it was relabeled Kodak.

hmm, who is more worthy of a limited edition Leica?  Tough call…

Not at all angry here Brad :)  You don’ think it is also an honor getting an edition after you?  You don’t think that Lenny or Seal or whoever are thinking ‘this is pretty cool’?  Of course they are, and why not?

Just kinda taken aback when I realized that Leica has not once released a limited edition camera in connection with a woman.

That is eye opening, at least to me.  And these are limited edition items, not production runs.  They even released an all white ltd ed M for a snowboarder! Male of course.  But women? Nope.

Yes, it certainly is interesting that all of the recent limited editions are associated with men. I agree. It seems very strange, even improbable.

Would I feel honored?....

I'm not a celebrity, not an artist, not even a very good photographer and I've not accomplished anything remarkable in my life...I am a nobody.  Leica wouldn't bother to ask me for a Kleenex....but hey, I do have an imagination so, supposing they did approach me about developing a limited edition...would I feel honored? I guess it would depend very much on how much money they offered...and if I get one of those fancy limited edition outfits outta the deal.

I imagine that people like Lenny Kravitz, who presumably already have plenty of money do it for the publicity and because it strokes their ego - which is, perhaps, ever so subtly different from feeling honored.   They might also do it simply because it sounds like an interesting project to work on.  :)

...and besides, there is a difference between Lenny Kravitz feeling honored or special and Leica honoring him for something.

...and finally, Dickey Chappelle. :)

Good to hear that too.

Dear FujiFilm, please, please, please bring back Neopan 400.

No disrespect intended, but wouldn't the interesting discussion about who to potentially name a Leica camera after be better in its own thread - say in Barnack's Bar? After all this is a thread speculating about the (supposed) imminent release of a new Leica film camera.

True, but the subject of this thread ran its course about 37 pages ago.

Which is more the reason, surely, to put an interesting question in its own thread. Besides which, it's October and there hasn't to my knowledge been a new film camera released yet, so the speculation is still warranted.

(Edit) I've just instigated a topic in the Bar for Special Edition naming suggestions and debate.

Rumor has it that the announcement will happen on Oct. 20.

Leica rumours today seems to confirm all the speculation we had arrived at.  (MP in M6 clothes , although with a non-black paint finish (let’s further speculate that this saves some weight as the m11 new tops have done)

It remains to be seen whether this is a Segway into lighter MP’s in the future that share finish (and production economies of scale) with m11.

I like that imagery of some guy on the scooter carrying a camera toward happier times.

And by page 2 it was pretty much decided to be an MP dressed up to look like an M6.

We had to talk about something over the next 37 pages.

Helen Levitt...

Thanks for that suggestion, Jeff, as I'm not sure I'm familiar with her work. Having had a quick look at her Wiki entry there are some things which sort-of remind me of stuff I've heard but I'm going to have to check her out when I get a bit of spare time. Her name might have cropped-up in a lecture way back when but I'm certainly far from sure about that.

Philip.
