OscarLeica Posted August 11, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, this is my first post. I recently bought an M6 classic in apparently great conditions. One week ago I noticed that frame preselector was kinda "lazy" in changing frames until it stopped working. Then I played a bit with the lever and everything seemed to be ok. Today I switched lens and the problem appeared again (frame stucked to 28mm but 50mm mounted), then I realised that something like a small hair was attached over the top line of the 50mm brightline (left side). Any idea or advice? thx in advance Oscar Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! jaapv Posted August 11, 2022 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2022 CLA by a reputable Leica specialist?
Guest Posted August 11, 2022 Share #3 Posted August 11, 2022 Welcome to the forum. Would be worth looking at a CLA (clean, lube and adjust) as @jaapv recommends.
OscarLeica Posted August 11, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) thank you. Is it possible to still use it or is it better to put in the closet waiting for the CLA (Leica specialists don't work in August in my country)? ps: do you thin it is actually a hair/fur or can it be something different (crack for example)? Guest Posted August 11, 2022 Share #5 Posted August 11, 2022 @OscarLeica you should still be able to use the camera. If the rangefinder is still operational then it should be ok. If not operational try using zone focusing.

Look up a diagram of how it all works and you will understand.

It may be worth mentioning yet again on the forum that if you incorrectly mount the lens the wrong frameline will be displayed. Allowing the lens to snap into place on the mount is the correct way, but if you keep the lens release button pressed in the lens will rotate beyond it's mechanical stop and show the 28mm framelines even though it's a 50mm lens that's mounted. As for the fibre in the viewfinder it can't possibly be worth having a CLA done just for that so just use the camera.
ianman Posted August 12, 2022 Share #8 Posted August 12, 2022 I used to have a whole load of hair visible in the viewfinder. Then I got it cut.
earleygallery Posted August 12, 2022 Share #9 Posted August 12, 2022 The frame line masks are very delicate and I can imagine a hair would make them stick. Maybe try moving the frame lever to cycle through the frames a few times might dislodge it?
TomB_tx Posted August 12, 2022 Share #10 Posted August 12, 2022 I had similar "fuzz" in a frameline of a used M3 I bought. It had no effect on the camera's operation, but it bugged me enough to have a full service done. as it was a good time to refresh lubricants and make sure all was adjusted well. OscarLeica Posted August 13, 2022 Author Share #11 Posted August 13, 2022 Thank you so much for all you replies. I will do a CLA soon as I cannot tollerate the fuzz even if it doesn't effect the shots. I will keep you posted.

I'm pretty sure the hair/fuzz appeared suddenly. It wasn't there when I bought the camera.
OscarLeica Posted August 13, 2022 Author Share #13 Posted August 13, 2022 Just a question since we are here: is there some fissure where dust/hair can walk through and reach the rangefinder "room". The M6 looks pretty sealed. thx
