Not quite brave enough plus I bought the CL for travel, it’s where it shines for me.

Bon Voyage, Jayne! Wonderful that you’re taking your M4-P. What lens is on it? IIRC you have a 50 Summi. Would you take that to compliment the 35 on the CL?

Rome, with all its rugged marble, will really shine for your film! And wow, a tripod!

Thanks Bags... yes, you've got it, wouldn't leave that one home as it's pretty much my favourite lens on any body.  Adding two images taken with CL and 50 Lux just so we don't get into trouble for interrupting the image thread.  I love it for street shooting as the colour one taken in Murano and for portraits obviously.  Well, the tripod... thought I should at least take a small tabletop one just incase - it might help at night for some longer exposures, or it may just stay in the bag lol!😂

Wishing you a happy and rewarding trip, Jayne. It will be interesting to see how your plans work out. In recent years I have veered towards equipment simplicity when travelling. Digital and  film require two different mindsets for me, but perhaps your mental agility can cope better than mine. Have a super time and enjoy the Frascati!

I wanted to share my excitement.  Just finished packing my bag for Rome trip tomorrow.  Following on from recent discussion on this thread about film, as you can see my film M4P is packed along with 4 rolls of film to accompany the CL on the trip.  Hope I don't end up wishing I took my digital M but my Daughter bought me that huge photo book in anticipation of this trip and I have been busy soaking up the amazing images, loads in there from HCB and many other very famous photographers, how could I not use some film, so packed 2 b&w and 2 colour, wish me luck😋.  Of course I know my trusty CL will bring me back some keepers.  Big book will not be coming along obviously but if you have any interest in Rome I thoroughly recommend looking it up.  CL and 35 TL - now packed too.

Have a great trip. Looking forward to seeing what you bring back..

Thanks very much David, I do actually know exactly what you mean about the different mindsets, but as the years go by it's important to test out that mental agility😉.  More importantly, I only keep cameras I use, not one for letting things collect dust in the cupboard and in my daily life I sometimes find it hard to find a reason to use film, so this trip seems an ideal opportunity.

Interesting discussion on digital vs film. Yesterday I was out and about in London on a photo walk with a brand new set of folk, predominantly shooting B&W film on my old Canon FTb but also grabbing the CL with 23mm when I needed to grab something quickly. As you say @wda, @Boojay, a different mindset is certainly required for each (especially when your light meter is broken) but I really enjoyed the challenge. Just a shame I have to wait days to see the prints now...!

A challenge indeed. Have you considered upgrading your model to a more photogenically acceptable coloured version? 😉

I'm really looking forward to your posts.  Trust you have a decent scanner to digitize your film?

Best wishes for a wonderful trip!
