Some directions of the sun may not be very flattering for a subject, but those unflattering effects could be interested in photos! ;)

Right; a matter of taste for sure. 🙄

I feel there is unexplained drama surrounding this serious portrait. Can you reveal any more information?

I've been pondering this shot since you posted it. Without doubt it's a very fine portrait. For what it's worth I think I would prefer it if the transition from light to dark was a bit more subtle and just a little more detail showing through the shadow without overdoing it and losing the mystery.  I hope you don't mind the feedback.

I share all your thoughts: great portrait (as are all rpoppes) with a bit too dramatic fall off to my taste. But I came to believe that it is his/her aesthetic style, and I appreciate the individuality. One of the problems with digital picture taking and post-processing developing is that it tends to create homogeneity. Even though I personally would try to create a more gradual fall-off--and I'd probably try to do that in curves or levels--I really like this as an individual aesthetic statement.

This is from (one of only 2) Louff Carousels left in the U.S. This is the better carousel of the two, and I'm submitting this, plus one over on the Q thread, to the Wikipedia national landmark photo competition which ends tomorrow. This with the Zeiss 50 f/1.5
