HeinzX Posted June 3, 2019 Share #5841 Posted June 3, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Reflection of flowers in a small pond. With CL and L 90/280 at equ. FF 380 mm. From viewpoint of ergonomics this combination is not ideal, but it is usable even without tripod. And the results of IQ are excellent. The stabilisation of the lens helps. But be very careful, if you use this combination not to press the release button by error, which is easy possible. In this case you may have 2 parts in your hands, the lens and the body. I'm always impressed by anyone who can take a BIF, let alone a hummingbird! You have some chromatic aberration (purple fringing) on the ragged edge of the tree trunk. It's common enough with fast lenses that have big front elements, especially when they are shot wide open. Easily corrected in the LR Lens Correction panel, just use the 'Amount' slider. I see the purple now that you pointed it out. Thanks Much. I’m going back in two weeks and could use some help. I had the CL set on spot focus and aimed at the bird feeder. It was dawn and I thought that the area where the bird showed up was too light. I couldn’t spot focus to the left of the feeder because I was just WAITING for my model to arrive. Help, please. I really like both the composition and the tonal scale of these, anchored just on this side of blown highlights. Terrific!

Terrific! Merci! I could have taken it down a stop. It would then have lost some of the details of the blades of the scythes. The cameras tonal range + a bit of LR and SFXP2 are what makes this work.

Albert, I have done very little bird photography but allow me to make a few suggestions. Pre-focusing makes sense provided you switch to manual focusing. Fix your exposure but change the mode to continuous. Then wait and hope a bird comes to the feeder. More frames shot in sequences, the greater chance of success. Good luck.
