We visited Norwich Cathedral today. I had my sensor cleaned yesterday and somehow the brightness in the EVF was increased whilst it was at the shop so I was having some trouble getting my settings right as a consequence.

With the Voigtlander 10mm f5.6. 1/80th, ISO 6400. Could be sharper.

The cloisters.

Again with the Voigtlander 10mm f5.6 1/125th, ISO 1600. This is when I wish I had a fisheye lens.

Then you would have to de-convolute the image with degraded and trimmed results. Many fish-eye lenses could barely cover what the 10mm does, but feel free to post comparisons. I am sure many of us would be interested.

Thank you for the picture.

With respect I would have to disagree on some of the points you make. This 10mm CV gives an angle of view of about 112 degrees on the CL. A quick snoop around the internet shows me that Samyang make a fisheye which gives an angle of view from 167-180 degrees on ASP-C, depending on the exact crop ration of the sensor. I can't post any comparisons because I don't have a fisheye for my CL.

I do agree however that many people will buy an FE lens and then try and de-fish to a rectilinear projection and that this seldom works. Corners are badly stretched and image quality degraded to the extent that you have to crop severely to get an acceptable image. I used a Samyang FE a lot on MFT and over the course of time learnt that when de-fishing there are many projections that can be used which don't degrade the image in the same way. Programmes like Hugin provide 10 or 15 different projections and provided you have kept the camera level and upright the output will be more than acceptable.

But then, it depends what you want to use a fisheye for. Like any UWA lens there are many who simply want to 'fit more into the frame' and these are the people most often disappointed with the output or find they have to crop the image heavily to get something that is distortion free. Shooting with any UWA requires a different competency in composing images with more thought given to foreground, distance and verticals; a fisheye is no different only now you also have to add distortion into the mix. Used in capable hands it brings a different dimension to the image which some like and others don't - c'est la vie!

I wasn't ready and shot this from the hip. My 18-56 lens was at 18 and the heron was far away. Damn. This is actually better than I expected.

I see your heron with a crane. At least I think it's a crane. Was also far away. With my brand spanking new 55-135.

I'm busy packing my bag for a return trip to Venice tomorrow, just had a quick look through last October's shots for a couple to share here.  This is my treat following my husband's new addition in the garage, he's staying home to play with it and look after the dogs, bless him.   CL packed with slightly different lens choice this time, 23/35/55-135, along with M Mount 15/50 and 90 mm should have all bases covered for my 5 day trip, sooooo excited!!!

Looking forward to seeing the results, Jayne.   Meant to tell you, after a serious flirtation with the EOS R I have decided on the CL instead.  It arrives this week so hope to post here before too long.

Is the M mount 15 the CV by the way?  I'm curious to see how it performs on the CL.

Safe travels and happy snapping!

I did the same Rob, tried the R, couldn't settle with it, still can't quite decide why.  Sure you will enjoy the CL.  The 15mm is the CV (oldest one), to be honest I have hardly used it but it is so small and light thought it would be a good wide angle option and I am interested to see how much use I put it to in Venice.

It's tiny, and it really does prefer to be on an M, so stop it down to f/5.6 , get close to interesting stuff, and everything will be in focus...  And 22mm-eff should be good for scenery.

Lucky you - I'm jealous. Do you like to shoot at night? Some  of the sights like Piazza St Marco are empty after the day trippers leave and make for great photos especially with that Voigtlander 15. You'll need a tripod of some sort of course.....Have a great trip and bring back some lovely photos to show us.

Don't know why you would want a fisheye for this, you got the angles balanced right, can see both walls of the two passageways, and the perspective lines are straight, like a geometry proof.

Thanks for the tip Scott, I am leaving my M at home this time, so will see how I go.

I love to shoot at night Dippy but at home live out in the sticks a little bit so don't do it often.  Last time I was in Venice I finished every evening in Piazza St Marco ( my hotel was 2 minutes walk away) listening to the music and eating ice cream.  This time I am staying near the Arsenale, Castello district but I'm sure I will still make my way to the Piazza.   I am usually most comfortable shooting with a fast 50mm (or for the CL the 35mm) and pretty useless at wide-angle, my head just doesn't see it and I usually end up disappointed in my efforts.  I could do with coming out with you for some tuition!
