Pete McGill Posted September 7, 2018 Share #2582 Posted September 7, 2018 To be honnest, I am not really convinced by the pictures I saw on this thread... I don’t know whether it is because of a somewhat « aggressive » bokeh, or the transitions between what is sharp and what is soft, but I did not push my usual « wow ! » after viewing the first shots from a new Leica camera. Sorry to break a little the ongoing enthusiasm. Maybe more time will solve my blasé attitude... I have to agree. I own a Q and I am looking into a CL to get some longer focal length lenses, but the images I’ve seen so far look a little soft. Great colors, but soft. Tell me is “soft” in my Saint Paul Cathederal post, please? No Albert it isn't - though I'm not sure anyone can really judge "softness" from the images posted on this great forum anyway, size restrictions make it a little difficult. Tip Albert. If you want to reply to someone, maybe use the Quote and MultiQuote buttons, otherwise it can be confusing and look like you are making the entire statement (if you know what I mean).

I own a Q and I am looking into a CL to get some longer focal length lenses, but the images I’ve seen so far look a little soft. Great colors, but soft. Tell me is “soft” in my Saint Paul Cathederal post, please? No, that actually looks sharp. I also noticed the post of the flowers with the Nikon 50mm 1.4 also looks very sharp. And I agree with the other poster that a picture posted to the forum is not going to be the best place to judge. That said, it seemed to me that the zoom lens samples are not as sharp as the others. Again that's hard to tell from looking at posted images as opposed to looking at some RAW files, or some high quality full resolution JPEGs. Cheers guys! I'm still interested in the CL and the points you make are completely valid.

Louis Posted September 8, 2018 Share #2594 Posted September 8, 2018 Further above, a poster suggested that the "native" zooms are not as sharp as "others". I guess by "others" he meant primes, which is very normal for every camera and lens brand. I often shoot with 18-56 and have always been very happy with it. It is not fast, but small, sharp and great for travel. I do not owe 11-23, but from what I have heard from every one, it is also a great lens. I acquired a 55-135 about a week or so ago. I really like the IQ from this lens. Today, I put it on my CL for the second time and went for a walk. I am posting a few shots from today as samples of this zoom and leave to each viewer for any judgement. All with CL and Vario Elmar-T, 55-135

Although I sold all three off when I ditched the TL2, I am in the process of acquiring another copy of the 55-135mm, which is . . . well, your pictures say it better than words can!
Louis Posted September 8, 2018 Share #2596 Posted September 8, 2018 I agree, Louis. Sharpness, or lack thereof, is not an issue with any of the three TL zooms. Although I sold all three off when I ditched the TL2, I am in the process of acquiring another copy of the 55-135mm, which is . . . well, your pictures say it better than words can!Rob, since you already had them, you know how good they are. To me, 55-135 completes my 18-55 As I am not much of a wide angle shooter, I was not very interested in 11-23 although I know how good it is. Of course, the TL and SL primes give a better image, But these zooms are so practical, more specially for travel. But to be honest, I really enjoy shooting manually with my old third party lenses. I know, for your type of photography, you prefer much longer focals.

M11 for me Posted September 8, 2018 Share #2599 Posted September 8, 2018 Heinz, I follow this thread regularly because I am very interested in the rendering of the CL. Still I imagine that the 2 images that you posted above seem maybe sharper on your own screen as they appear here in the forum. Did they loose the sharpness when reducing size for the forum? What is your view?
HeinzX Posted September 8, 2018 Share #2600 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) Alex, I think the processing might contribute, but main reason seems to be the photo itself, the factory and the wagons are covered with a lot of dust of the production of cement and the overall contrast was low too. But I do not blame the CL or the 18-56 for that. I do not know, if with my SL and the 24/90 I would have got sharper images under this circumstances - maybe. But in general I am very satisfied with CL and the 2 zooms I own. And of course it would be possible to use the 24/90 with the CL - that results in very high quality of the pictures but in loss of wide angle focal length and in additonal weight too.
