I can always make my other half like a photo by putting a spot of red in it!

As bikes go (and especially compared to some bikes described on the forum) it is on the cheap side, a Trek. But I like the colour.

Haha, nothing to do with the colour, I know nothing about bikes, I still regularly ride my late 70's Dawes owned from new, (beautiful silvery blue plus odd bit of rust), three gears has always been ample for me, rarely change out of third lol!  Just your bike looks lightweight and purposeful, very useful carrier on the front too, nice.

Sadly, bikes in Cambridge can have short lives, because of theft. My old bike (also a Dawes) looked too battered to steal, but when I changed it for a Trek (lighter, and a frame that better matched my arms and legs), it was stolen after 6 months, and its replacement went the same way. It is a light bike, but I now have a heavy duty lock (not carried for this ride) to stop our insurance company asking suspicious questions. I've also taped over the brand name. The bag is an Ortlieb Ultimate 6 camera bag, recommended by someone on this forum - as would I now.

The tricks I learned living in Amsterdam were:

1) Have a cheap commuter bike and a more expensive leisure bike.

2) Take the saddle with you when you park the bike.

3) Make sure the rear wheel and frame are anchored together to the object you use to secure your bike.

4) Make sure the security system you use defeats everything but the largest most expensive industrial strength chain cutters.
