I am still trying to get my skill level up a bit shooting wild birds (I have just ordered the Sigma 100-400)(again).

This was taken with the CL/Leica-R 80-200

I have no idea what this bird is but it's the first time to see it visit my feeder, I was very excited. I 'THINK' it is a Hawfinch? If anyone knows for sure please let me know.

Might even be a House Sparrow?

Which would be quite exciting as the Tree Sparrow is now very scarce, although slowly coming back from 93% decline at 2008. It is hard to tell from the photo, but if the chestnut on the head comes right down to the beak at the front it is a Tree Sparrow, as David says.

Certainly not a Hawfinch which is a quite dramatically coloured bird with a very thick beak.

Nice photo.

So the Sigma 100-400 arrived nice and early, well done Sigma UK.

Only managed a couple of quick shots both with the CL & Sigma 100-400 @f8.0

Out for a walk today not expecting much, then... I believe it's a Kestral Hawk. I am absolutely delighted with this shot, he/she sat there quite happily at a distance then flew off.

Albert, we know the feeling. As an aside, what is the specimen deciduous tree in front of your property ?

Sunburst Locust. Very messy with tiny leaves that clog my gutters.
