Panasonic have announced an end to development of compact cameras saying they will concentrate on mirrorless cameras in partnership with L2 partner Leica.

so let the the guessing and wishful thinking commence. What fun.

“Panasonic will continue production of current offerings. But its focus going forward will be on developing high-end mirrorless cameras for photography enthusiasts and professionals. The Japanese company looks to release a mirrorless model it is jointly developing with Germany’s Leica Camera, with which it formed a tie-up in May.”

Panasonic will never ever make APS-C cameras

I've never seen a statement by Panasonic to that effect. And they are curtailing their MFT lineup severely because the lower range  cannot compete with smartphones any more,  whilst developing "a camera in collaboration with Leica" for next year. Sensor size not specified.

No APS-C:
Panasonic confirmed that they will never make APS-C L-mount cameras “We have our own Micro Four Thirds system and we think that [because of the greater difference in size between full-frame and M43] this is the best balance. We have no plans to develop APS-C products.

When did they make this statement: before or after the L2 announcement?

Do Panasonic and Leica see L2 as a discrete entity?

Exactly, the L2 deal changes everything. Leica already has all of the APS-C architecture and know-how, so it certainly would be easy to do. Not banking on it, but it’s certainly possible, and I wouldn’t put any stock into a years-old statement from Panasonic.

So where is never-ever? It reads as "no plans at this point of time". A bit like Leica's statement about the impossible digital rangefinder.

Panasonic are the most stubborn company in the world at its own expense.

Panasonic is making horrendous LCOS EVF (sequential RGB) and insisted to stick them in most of their cameras for years. Before cave in and bought OLED EVF from Sony.

Panasonic still use subpar Depth from Defocus AF and still has no plan to make Phase and Constrast detect hybrid AF.

Panasonic is protecting its assets first. They will use whatever tech they have in house first. They will NOT cannibalised their own products. Like they said : no plan for APS-C. Because it is too close to m4/3 and full frame.
Panasonic will never launch a third set of lens to accommodate APS-C. It makes no sense in a shrinking market.
Last : Leica gave up on APS-C. Maybe in part due to L2 technology : Panasonic don’t want nor need APS-C.

So no need to dream.

If no APS-C camera is forthcoming, then this just means Panasonic will discontinue the 1-inch sensor line (including the Leica clones).  With their line of full frame L-mount cameras already established does this mean a D-Lux 8, or maybe a new 4/3rds camera with interchangeable lenses?

What does micro four thirds have to do with an L mount alliance?

Leica withdrew from MFT many years ago, except from sponsoring a few Panasonic lenses. It is hard to imagine them reentering that sector.

Google is your friend : type Panasonic Lumix interview 2022. Et voilà.
What’s Panasonic is saying in March 2022 won’t differ from June 2022. Obviously L2 alliance is being drafted long ago.
Maybe it is the other way around L2 technologies pushed Leica to gave up on APS-C since Panasonic has no interest into the format.

You’re making assumptions, still not offering facts to support your original premise.

I will dream.  Keeping my Leica Type T APS-C L Lens for the new Panasonic camera.  Thank you.
