I like the look of my MP but for daily use I prefer the M6 as it feels much smoother and better ergonomically Your M6 feels smoother than your MP? That's surprising. I have an M4 that has been recently CLAd and an M-A. The M4 feels great but the M-A definitely feels smoother.

I find the M4-P plastic lever winder awkward to use, and the shutter speed dial is very stiff. Black chrome on the M4-P was mint a month ago when I bought it, and it’s already showing wear. M-A black chrome finish is tough as nails. M4-P with MP finder upgrade still isn’t in the same class as the M-A. The M-A finder is even better than my M11’s finder.

I used to have a black paint MP, now I have a black chrome M4-P as my only film M. I had Sherry Krauter install the MP viewfinder and it has improved the vievfinder performance and flare resistance. I am pleased with the M4-P and will hang on to it. After reading @hdmesa's observations, if I decide to pick up a new film M body it will be an M-A rather than an MP. Or perhaps one of each if I'm feeling a bit jiggy. Edited August 7, 2022 by Herr Barnack

My M4-P is one with the brass top plate and recessed front finder window, and if I’m reading the CLA paperwork correctly, it sounds like when they do the MP finder upgrade, the front finder glass can’t be part of the replacement and has to remain. If you have the flush front finder window, you probably have the entire MP finder unit in there. Black MP or silver M-A is what I want next.
28framelines Posted August 8, 2022 Share #26 Posted August 8, 2022 I went with the MP. In Canada, the prices got to a point for an M6 that it made sense to buy the MP new and get a warranty. Plus, they still make the camera, so parts (if needed) are still being made. Easy decision.
Jewl Posted November 1, 2022 Share #27 Posted November 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) And now? New M6 got released, same price as MP, updated viewfinder etc… Really struggling now what to get. Both look awesome in their own way 😮💨😮💨 that‘s the only real difference, right? (Except of the shutter wheel turn direction to get the correct exposure)

(Except of the shutter wheel turn direction to get the correct exposure) There seems to be some confusion about this, but the old M6 Classic, the new M6 reissue and the MP all have the same shutter speed dial direction of rotation. The M6 TTL is the one that's different. The designs of the film advance lever and the rewind crank/knob are the obvious main differences between the MP and the new M6. Apart from that, the cosmetics and whatever internal changes they may or may not have made since the MP - see other (endless) threads. Obviously the M6 (any version) is much cooler... JohnFM Posted November 2, 2022 Share #39 Posted November 2, 2022 I started with an M6 many years ago (and updated the viewfinder), then added an early generation MP. The M6 was easier to rewind but I preferred the MP because it was notably smoother and just so damn beautiful. But, alas, I sold it because I knew I would baby the thing and never really use it hard as a camera. I love brassed cameras (like my old Nikkormat) but was just afraid to set it down on the ground and watch the black paint gradually wear away. Selling that MP is one of my few regrets. It was just perfect and would have become even more so with the brass showing through.
