Do we not hope for the Q3? 🤪

Ha! I guess so. But the Q-P was released ~three years after the original Q, so if they were to do a "P" version of the Q2, an argument could be made that it would happen now-ish. Also since it would be (theoretically, mostly) a cosmetic upgrade... ostensibly it'd be less work for Leica's Q team but... who knows?

I fail to see any point for all these "special" Leica cameras, other than to line the company's pockets. Personally I would much rather see new models, firmware updates and real - usable stuff, not the removal of the red dot, which in the first place (and allowing for very very few exceptions) is a pretty smug and elitist thing to do. If making and selling these cameras adds to the financial strength and stability of Leica as a company, I don't have a problem with it.  Leica is not out to "get" anyone; they are simply trying to pay their employees, make a profit and stay in business. If a person thinks Leica is guilty of profiteering, they can always decline to purchase the special edition cameras.

Sorry, can't go along with that - I have read other commentators who claim that the very presence of the Leica red dot is supposedly "smug and elitist."  Jeez - it would be nice if all the malcontents could get on the same page with their complaints. 🙄

The red dot is the company's logo, which was settled on long ago.  Would the logo be less allegedly "smug and elitist" if it were green?  Or blue?  Or plaid?  Leica is allowed to put their own logo on the cameras they create - aren't they??

I agree. They're entitled to (and, in fact, should) try to profit as much as possible. Personally I think the special editions are cool, and are one of the things that sort of sets Leica apart. Gives them (the cameras and the company generally) some character.

Well... First of all, I am not judging this practice from its financial angle for the company as it obviously makes sense for them to do so. What I am saying is that "special editions" do not add anything material to the users, no features, no advancements, no new stuff. Of course I will decline to buy them - you, my friend, can go right ahead and buy as many as you like:)

With regards to my comment about the red dot, I am afraid you totally misunderstood me. What I said is that the main selling point behind the P variant seems to be the removal of the red dot. The Leica logo carries a lot of connotations, especially of status and money, so its removal seems pretty smug and elitist, not its presence. Why? Because, there are two kinds of people looking at a Leica camera - those that know it's a Leica from thousand miles away logo or no logo (so there's no fooling them!) and those that wouldn't know a Leica camera if it came up to them and kicked them in the face (so they don't care).

Having said that, I have nothing against people picking up P cameras or Hermes or 007 or whatever else - whatever trips anyone's trigger really - just not for me:) No hard feelings, please:)

One thing that the special edition cameras give their owners is a different visual aesthetic - in other words, beauty.  That doesn't improve the camera's specs, but it does do something for some owners.

I got the M-P 240 Safari set for a couple of reasons - first, it was actually less money than the plain black M-P 240 and a plain black 35 Summicron would have been,  and the vented lens hood was part of the deal.  I also thought the olive green finish with chrome accents just looked nice.  It is the only special edition Leica that I have and it has been used a lot over the years.  I'm a shooter rather than a collector/hoarder of Leica cameras and lenses.

Your view on the Leica logo and its presence or absence is one perspective.  My Q2 has the logo; I like it as is and don't wish it were different.  My 240 Safari and M10M do not have the logo; I like both as they are and don't wish they were different.  The logo just isn't that big of a deal to me.  IMO if the Leica logo carries connotations of status and money, it is because someone has assigned those connotations to the logo in their own mind.

No hard feelings over here - we just have different ways of thinking about the logo.

I do not think that launching special editions detracts from firmware updates and adding "real, usable stuff." The software engineers and testers are typically not in charge of designing the camera body.

Wonderful news, lol.

I consider the P version of the Q to be not a vain upgrade but rather a fix for the regular black anodized finish that has the chip resistance of hard candy 🍬

The screenless interface?  Okay.  I can live with that.  The M60 had no back panel TV and people loved that camera.

As for the faux advance lever - well, they might as well have put this on top of the M10-D:  https://www.amazon.com/Loftus-Doggie-Doo-Fake-Poop/dp/B005OKG5L4  🙄

The “P” version wasn’t purely cosmetic. They upgraded the shutter and modified the power switch. Makes a lot of sense to me to make minor upgrades mid-cycle…

Yes, I agree — and I owned one 🙂 Shutter button was updated, not the shutter itself, though.

The M10-P was much quieter than the M10 - and it had a touchscreen which the M10 didn’t

Jono, you fell into the same trap as I did 😁 (see my post #16). Originally, I quoted Leica about the updated shutter in M10-P, then I noticed that this thread is about Q-P and a speculated Q2-P. Hence the "(deleted)" in the post :).

About Leica Q-P:

New finish aside, the major functional change for the Q-P is a redesigned power switch and shutter button assembly.
