Hello,

I just joined this forum and am hoping to get an opinion.

Today, I received my first Leica, a Leica Q which I had bought through ebay and found (what I think is) dust on the sensor. The seller had confirmed to me that

even at f/16 there are no problems.

It isn't noticeable in most other pictures I take so I am wondering how others would handle this situation and if you would consider it reason to complain to the seller and ask for a refund?

I am thinking that this could lower resale value even though I am not thinking I will resell anytime soon.

Btw, I contacted Leica in Wetzlar and the lady on the phone was sure that there was not an update to the Q in 2017 which sealed the battery opening better against dust (which I had read on here). She even contacted two other Leica employees which both confirmed the same.

Thank you

Sevi

Thank you for your answer. Yes, they will clean it for around 300$ but I bought it with the sellers confirmation that there is no dust.

That's what made me wonder if I should ask the seller to pay for the cleaning.

Also, the right encircled particle is hardly visible but it is in all photos taken in this way. Is that also dust or something else?

What shape is the camera in on a whole...and did you get a good price.

If it is in excellent shape, and you got a good price I'd just get it cleaned.  Sensor cleaning, even on a fixed lens camera is just part of regular maintenance.  You yourself have said it was hard to notice and you basically have to take test photos that are never going to happen in real life...so the seller quite likely never noticed them and was not trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Just my opinion.

Can you see the dust in 'real world' photos?

It's also possible that the dust moved onto the sensor during transit. No harm in approaching the seller but as said dust does get onto fixed lens sensors (maybe not fully weather sealed or waterproof models).

Seller reacted very nice and understanding to my message and offered to refund me a part of the cleansing price. Thanks for all the replies.

I am very much looking forward to the Q and also to exploring this forum.

The one on the left is dust on the sensor.  The one on the right is probably dust on the back of the lens.  Leica will sort it.
