SrMi Posted July 27, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) DxO has just launched an update of its popular PureRAW noise reduction software that supports M11. DxO PureRAW is DxO's simplest program that implements DeepPRIME noise reduction. It reads raw files and can generate linear DNGs (demosaiced, but still scene referred). Further discussion of DxO PureRAW should probably continue in the "Digital Post Processing Forum."
Advertisement Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Hi SrMi, Take a look here DxO PureRAW 2.1 added support for M11. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted July 27, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2022 I like what I am seeing. With one of the few supported lenses, APO-Summicron-M 50mm, there seems to be a good payoff for using the DXO engine, compared to (top to bottom) Capture One 22 and Lightroom Classic (all settings default, and turning off DXO Smart Lighting to even the playing field). Easy parts to spot the differences (click for full size ...) include license plate, warning sign, wall inscription, texture on the columns: Welcome, dear visitor! I like the middle one the best... the fist picture has fake sharpness and contrast, look at the vespa and the box wall on top. The 2 people have lost details in hair and skin but the exposure looks the same...

I agree with your observations (including Capture One > Lightroom); the differences you spotted may be due to defaults for each app - I didn't touch them on purpose as at some point then all bets are off (with enough effort you can match output from most raw converters in 'average' scenarios ...). To your point, 'Highlight priority = slight' would have dialed back EV in DXO by -0.5 and led to a more similar exposure compared to the other two. Likewise contrast can be manipulated in many ways ... e.g. via settings for Contrast, Microcontrast, Fine contrast, curves, ClearView, and color rendering profile. I still see an advantage for DXO (esp. with matching lens profile) in 1/ lens sharpness; 2/ high-ISO noise reduction. Beyond that, all 3 leading raw converters have some uniquely nice features that the others are missing (... reason for foolish people like myself to own and use them all). SrMi Posted July 28, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted July 28, 2022 Unfortunately, DxO PureRAW sharpens the output even with Global Lens Sharpening turned off. That is why I prefer PhotoLab to PureRAW. PhotoLab (updated to support M11) allows fine-tuning NR and turning off sharpening. I use DxO PhotoLab only as PureRAW with more settings :).
SrMi Posted July 28, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted July 28, 2022 DxO tools have an issue with M11 because the generated linear DNG does not include the M11 PROFILE. Lightroom reports s "Profile Missing" error in the profile tab, and the colors will differ from the original DNG. I use Cobalt Standard instead. jakontil Posted July 28, 2022 Share #7 Posted July 28, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) i like the PureRaw for being in the LR classic plugin, with that said, it was overly sharpened like was said earlier, i might be interested with the photolab

PhotoLab used to be able to run as LrC plugin, but now there are some issues. Hope it gets fixed. With the latest Lightroom, I drag the image from Lightroom's grid to PhotoLab icon in dock, select a "profile" (DeepPRIME, sharpening off) and export. The exported linear DNG automatically appears in Lightroom, as it does with PureRAW.
