Hi peeps, I'd this opportunity and purchased a second-hand 28 Summicron ASPH in silver. I used to have the 28 Summilux, but as good as it was, it's simply too big and heavy (I know 'big and heavy' can't be compered to DSLR but that's another story). Anyways, I am loving this little lens! Small, solid-construction, well-balanced on M9, rigid aperture ring (a plus point for me as I would want to shoot exclusively in f2 unless for landscapes) and smooth focusing ring. I did not care for the unwieldy bulky lens hood and keep it off at all times. What I'd miss about the 28 Summilux is its ability to render in a cinematic and portraiture way, but for that purpose I have the 50 APO to help out. This 28 Summicron will be on my M9 permanently as a travel lens!

I also got it some years ago when I sold a black one. I find it razor sharp, crispy and with nice and full colours. Corners are incredibly sharp, Out of Phocus is between 35 Summilux FLE and 50 Summicron non-APO, maybe a bit too creamy for my taste (I don't like recent perfect OOF rendering too much; for wideangles I love 35v4 and 24LUX rendering, a bit of aberration is welcome). I got a marvellous one, with no italian-flag and spot on phocus, I never use a hood.
The black one I had was very poor, unusable on M9 (italian-flag) and had poor quality on corners.

Very nice light lens with dual behaviour (dreamy wide open and story-telling @4.0/5.6 with cropping possibility),

Your combo is wonderful!!!

This lens being one of 500 pcs from the limited production run of the first silver anodized Leica lens in 2008?

Although I believe this limited run was different from the current ones such as the titaniums, the black chromes, the 28 silver summiluxs which are more exclusive 🤔

I do not really know, but my guess would be that this first attempt to try out silver anodizing aluminum was probably not meant to be «exclusive», but more about testing a new technique…but please correct me!
