Leica_Guy_Dallas Posted June 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have several vintage metal lens caps that has lost its interior felt tap that keep the cap securely fastened to the lens. I am looking to replace the felt tape but do not know where to start looking for the material. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted June 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2022 Try this... If you have used film canisters, the felt lips can be re-used 😉. Their thickness may be thinner than original but why not trying.
Pyrogallol Posted June 13, 2022 Share #3 Posted June 13, 2022 I was given some thin self-adhesive soft “felt” sheets which I cut up, but it is a bit fiddly to fit neatly inside the cap. Sometimes just a couple of small pieces will suffice. It all depends on the thickness of whatever you use and how loose the cap fits. Welcome, dear visitor! spydrxx Posted June 13, 2022 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2022 Local hobby shops like Hobby Lobby, and some fabric/hobby shops like JoAnn Fabrics, also big chanins like Walmart carry crafting supplies, which often include adhesive backed felt in various colors and thicknesses. I've used these to reline some caps (as well as other projects). The sheets are inexpensive and will last thru many projects.
Jerry Attrik Posted June 13, 2022 Share #5 Posted June 13, 2022 I had one fall out. On examination it was a strip of purple plush stuck to a strip of card. This was then 'stuck' in using a water based vegetable gum or neetsfoot glue. If your chosen liner is too thin stick a strip of card on the back of it. If you choose to use short strips, instead of the full round, use three pieces, it will make the cap fit more securely and not wobble about. Keep you busy on a warm summer evening!!!😅
zeitz Posted June 15, 2022 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2022 I have found the adhesive backed felt to be a little thick. This adhesive backed flocking is a great product. Unfortunately it is only available in black. Shipping from Tokyo to my location in the middle of the US was two days. https://japanhobbytool.com/products/light-trap-material?_pos=1&_sid=9472a1249&_ss=r
