Hello,

Having bought the M10R new I noticed a discinct rattle when turning the shutter speed dial. Since I have only had it for 2 month I send it to Leica Wetzlar through my local dealer. 4 months later it came back, dirtier than when i sent it in and with the same problem. They, however state "cleaned, dust removed and shutterspeed dial adjusted" on the bill. They also got the video i'm attaching here. So now i'm stuck with a leica that is ideed working fine but sounds like a fisher price camera. Is this considered normal in their customer service? And has anyone had this problem yet with the shutterspeed dial? I could't find anything about it.

I will also write a letter to leica, but I doubt that it will change anything, since they can always say it is within their limits.

Thank you for your help!

Lex

If you use the shutter speed dial as it is supposed to be used you will not have a problem.

It is painful to watch you abusing it like that.

I can't seem to hear anything else than click stops. Does the rattle happens when you shake the camera?

No, no rattle when i shake it. The sound is sharper and deeper at lower shutter speed, so on one side of the dial. It it would be consistend i would not worry.

Sounds like a shutter dial to me. What did your dealer say?

Jeff

The dealer said that it should not be this way. We tried another M10 in the store, which sounded normal and not like mine. But he also can't do anything if leica says it's within their standarts.

Your dealer could have replaced it rather than sending in for repair.

It sounds normal to me in sound quality (though my last M was a M240). It's difficult to tell if it is too loud from a recording - it depends on my laptop volume control!
I admit I have never spun the dial like that.

Try turning the shutter dial with your index finger when you look through the VF. Do you still hear the rattle, i mean other than click stops of course.

Yes, it's closer to my head I hear it even better.

No idea how this is considered abuse or wrong usage? If the M shutter speed dial can't deal with this 'abuse' then Leica had better call it a day. I've used M's for decades and use the shutter speed dial exact same as in the video. It shouldn't matter if one adjusts it back and forth 24/7 or only once in a while - both ways should stand up to the use for a large portion of the camera's life. .

Anyway, it's hard from the video to determine for me to determine if the sound is any different from my 10-R black paint so won't comment on that.
