Hey team,

Sorry, I‘m new to Leica, have been shooting with my M11 for a few weeks now. Is it normal, that the LCD does not turn off when I look through the viewfinder? I was shooting late at night and noticed it for the first time. Thanks!

What do you mean by viewfinder: optical (RF) or Visoflex (EVF)?

Yes, that's normal. There is no eye detect sensor at the viewfinder window, so the camera has no idea whether you are looking through the viewfinder or not. If your camera still has the default settings, pressing the "FN" button when you are in live view mode, that is, when the rear LCD is showing your future image, should turn off the screen.

I'll update my own post for a clarification... There is a sensor on the back near the viewfinder, but it appears to be used just to switch between the Visoflex and the LCD.

Quit LV mode and your LCD will be black.

The OVF has a brightness sensor for LCD panel.  Only the accessory Visoflex has the proximity sensor that switches between EVF and LCD
