Hello,

I´m looking for the 6-Bit-Code concerning these two old, but very much appreciated lenses. I know that there can only exist an comparable code - can anybody help me?

Is it right that these two lenses have a "cremy" bookeh? Pictures taken with these lenses look somewhat "as not from these world", as taken from the heaven - very nice impression, especially whne taken portraits.

Regards and thanks a lot, Wolf

If you appreciate these lenses for their specific stylish character (and I agree, many Leitz oldies are very appreciable with M8, expicially in B&W), I think you can forget at all the problem of 6-bit coding: even for the new lenses, there is general consensus about that in terms of image quality coding gives almost nothing for the lenses above 50 mm; so, the only reason for coding would be the recognition in the EXIF file... is it so important ?

More important is the problem of filters : the lens you are speaking of existed also in versions that had not the E39 thread mount, for which UVIR filters are easily available: if both are really from 1957 they ought to be E39, but better to be sure...

Are you using the collapsible 90mm? I understood that it shouldn't be used on the M8 as the neck collapses too deeply into the body and will touch the shutter. I have a copy, too, so please let me know if that is wrong.

Thanks, Doug

The Elmar 90/4 collapses less deeply than the Elmar 50/2.8 actually. I did not try it on the M8 though.
