Luigi's case - craftsmanship par excellence.

Hi,

Having read the thread on 'Grips' from last week, I decided that I would buy a Luigi half case in the 'aged brown' colour. I ordered it on Monday afternoon, and it arrived in the UK this morning.

It is, quite simply, a tour-de-force of leather craftsmanship. It is beautifully made, and the quality of materials is superb. The design and implementation of the 'hanging hatch' is perfect, and it works well.

Despite not being the 'full grip' version, it makes the camera much, much easier to grip.

I haven't pictured the strap, but it is just as impressive as the case.

Well worth the money, indeed, I doubt I shall ever have to buy another one!

I got the same case in black. It makes it so much easier to carry the camera. The armored feeling is great. I'm a lot less worried about banging into things.

Does cut down on the chiimping when the back is snapped shut. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Makes shooting a little more like the film experience.

I also like the leather smell when you look through the viewfinder and the muffled shutter sound.

Does this case significantly muffle the shutter sound?

Yes, significantly is the word, but it's more the noise the cocking motor makes that is reduced. The shutter sound is less audible, but the leather case cuts the high frequency noise from the cocking motor almost completely. You now feel the noise, rather than hear it..... a low frequency 'thud', which is quite pleasant.

It's rather like cutting all the treble from a bit of rock music - all you are left with is the thump of the drums:D

Dave,

What's the threaded screw for tripod mounting?

My case has no hole in the bottom for a tripod (normally I use Arca plates). I figured I'd just take off the case when I used a tripod.

I have that very same case Doug.

It's funny, people notice the case and not the M8.

I have found the threaded screw for tripod mounting to be very useful.

Classy outfit, Luigi and Leicatime!

You can see the Luigi screw in the bottom of this case on his website.

It screws into the tripod mount and allows the camera to be placed on a tripod without taking the case off. I think it's an extra $50.

As a practical matter I have found myself removing the case frequently to swap batteries and SD cards. Seems to be wearing very well though.

I´ve got the same one in black for my M8, but I should have preferred the optional gate for the USB-port. It takes e few moments to open the case, unscrew the tripod-scres for carrying the photos to the pc - or even more take thr M8 out of the case, open the ground-plate, get out the SD-Card every time. Suggest the USB-gate would make this easier...

Oh yeah!

It's awsome. I use a luigi with my old M6. Thinking of getting one for the M8.

Love the lens you have attached in the picture. Thinking of getting that one aswell:)

Thanks for that info Dave.

I think I'll stick with removing the case. My tripods have quick releases. Can't see leaving a plate attached to the threaded screw beneath the case.

Just ordered one. Black. With the removable back. And the strap. This is an instance where an Italian sensibility and craftsmanship greatly tempers the German sensibility and craftsmanship. And one can order it online and expect to get it in a few days. The world is a wonderful place. JB

Every time I see somebody post about Luigi bag, I am one stop closer to ordering.

One question because I always have problem with color name when colors are so close together.

So, could somebody please tell me what this color is (pix from Luigi's page). I am interested in the bright color one in the center.

I am guessing it is the Ralley-brown we are refering to? Is it?

thank you
