jrc Posted September 11, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 11, 2007 It's gotta be the contrast between the out-of-focus parts and the in-focus parts that make the photos snap like that. They are absolutely three-dimensional. JC
c6gowin Posted September 11, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2007 Guy, you know I love the 90AA. You really nailed the focus and exposure on these photos. They are great examples of the 90 capabilities in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. Mark Gowin
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 11, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 11, 2007 Thanks Mark and John . Images like this really define at least to me what Leica glass is all about and it's a combination of things that really make them stand above others in my book. Besides being some of the fastest wide open lenses with extreme sharpness , the qualities that are hard to find in others , is the contrast and saturation that comes with it when there wide open. There not mushy, they have a lot of snap and that is the character with the Apo glass and ASPH coatings. They really just sing, than you can get more subtle effects with the luxes. i really enjoy having that mix in the bag depending on what i am doing. The very hard part about these type of images which i did not mention and may not be noticed is i am on the very brink of have it or not because i am handheld at a 1/90 of a second which really is about a stop too slow in shutter speed. I have my misses but it is more movement on the subject and i know that full well but this is were a lot of care must be taken. Also this is a very typically time to have that extra stop in shutter at ISO 1250 which i try to avoid because of noise. My one improvement for Leica is give me that one extra stop on the noise floor. ISO 1250 is good and for most folks very good , I just hate noise. I admit i am real picky on that one but love the B&W at ISO 1250. Now the improvemnt here is really in CCD sensors and not so much Leica's part. If you look around noise levels on CCD sensors is not at the same level as CMOS. Look at all the MF backs with CCD there best ever is maybe ISO 800 and that is very recent with Phase backs, so the next generation of CCD this is the one area that improvement in design and processing the signal to noise needs improvement and MF has some of that going on today so next gen could hit the mark better for leica. Time will tell but i just love Leica glass and CCD sensors, to me it's Kodachrome Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 11, 2007 Share #8 Posted September 11, 2007 BTW I processed in LR for all the images and i had the camera set for tungsten and did very little in the way of WB or anything else in LR. Running a test later today with C1 beta and LR on some portraits i shot yesterday but i am leaning still on LR.

Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 11, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 11, 2007 Than there are about 5 other threads that have nothing to do with a M8 but are in that section. If i wanted my images here i would have posted it here. Period
stunsworth Posted September 11, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 11, 2007 There doesn't seem to be too much technical about it to me, some well exposed shots at a corporate function. The photo forum is the right place for them IMHO.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 11, 2007 Share #13 Posted September 11, 2007 Than either is my 90 macro to slow in the M8 section. Sorry i don't visit here ever and too me makes no sense . wattsy Posted September 11, 2007 Share #14 Posted September 11, 2007 It's a technical post and that was the intention. What was the technical point that you were illustrating with the images? I'm afraid I agree with the others that this is the appropriate section for the images.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 11, 2007 Share #15 Posted September 11, 2007 And I disagree. here than where do these belong , certainly not in the M8 section http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/33513-test-fire.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/33568-aperture-lightroom-leica-m8-raw-file.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/33591-i-found-my-macro-90-4-a.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/33595-mad-absolutely-crazy.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/33590-aperture-died-me.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/33536-unreliable-hp-b9180.html
Guest s.m.e.p. Posted September 11, 2007 Share #16 Posted September 11, 2007 In the german forum we post pictures in the photo forum and technical questions and tipps in the customer- film- digital-, or m8- forum. It is a very bad manner to post all those m8 pictures in the m8 forum"because they have a technical aspect".
cam2000 Posted September 11, 2007 Share #17 Posted September 11, 2007 Sorry to side with Guy on this subject....... but Guy is showing what great quality pictures can be accomplished with the M8 and the AA Summicron 90 lens..... I see no wrong in this!

stunsworth Posted September 11, 2007 Share #19 Posted September 11, 2007 Hi Guy, I agree some of those belong in the digital/customer forum rather than the M8 one - though I think the second thread comparing RAW processors when used with M8 forums is correctly placed in the M8 forum. stunsworth Posted September 11, 2007 Share #20 Posted September 11, 2007 Sorry to side with Guy on this subject....... but Guy is showing what great quality pictures can be accomplished with the M8 and the AA Summicron 90 lens..... I see no wrong in this! If that was the criteria for posting photographs in the M8 forum rather than the photo forum then the M8 forum would be swamped with photographs.
