Advertisement Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Hi Pelu2010, Take a look here Portraits with the Q2 with Ben Staley. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Olaf_ZG Posted April 14, 2022 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2022 Thanks Peter for bringing this video to my attention. Great what can be done with just a Q. Interesting that most is in b/w, but the every now and then colour image showed that the Q2 without M fits him very well. Very wise what he said at the end, and that is really for any camera. Just take images of your beloved ones.
Pelu2010 Posted April 14, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted April 14, 2022 Yes is channel is just a joy to watch. Every single clips he does is filled with details and well crafted. And his voice is just special! Sometimes I just here him talk. 😄
hdmesa Posted April 14, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 14, 2022 Great example of having worked to master a given FOV, particularly one that is more challenging to portrait work.
Sandokan Posted April 15, 2022 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2022 Never heard of him before. Strange because he continuously refers to all his other videos, "linked below." Some of his portraits are good, others are "meh" because of the 28mm lens, they look like snapshots or as if they could have been done by a phone. Very good usage of natural light. 7mins of him talking before he gets to a portrait. Ultra shallow depth of field for a video of an interview - I can see why it hasn't been done before by broadcasters. Very annoying for the eyes to go out of focus when he moves. Why show video of your bathroom in Peru?
Steve Ash Posted April 15, 2022 Share #6 Posted April 15, 2022 In my point of view the referenced youtube video is more to the point of my interests and entertaining than 99.99% of what is broadcast on TV. Well, may be that is why I dropped the time bandid TV out of my life.
Bazookajoe Posted April 16, 2022 Share #7 Posted April 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great stuff! This is what I like about the Q2s focal length: being able to show the subject within the context by including some of the background. Situational portraits. With the Q2 one can either choose to use the full 28mm, or crop to get the composition one desires: Welcome, dear visitor! Olaf_ZG Posted April 20, 2022 Share #8 Posted April 20, 2022 Based on the video shown by the OP, I watched some other videos of the guy. yeah, he talks a lot, but then, he gave me some ideas as well: - his studio, this will save me some money on rent as I managed to find a great place - how he asks portraits on the street, a big struggle for me, despite having shots hundreds of weddings where it was not a problem - the way he approaches the shoot during the shoot - the fact he just goes out and shoot, sth I don’t do as I’m not sure what to do with the images - basically the guy inspired me to shoot more, differently and not to be too much bothered by equipment. it is most probably just me, but I needed this to see…

I didn’t have a problem taking pictures of people until I got attacked. I stoped shooting for 2 years. Only self portraits and landscape. I had to learn to approach people again. I never again took a picture of people without asking. Since two years I am practicing alternatives But Ben is one of my favorites. just so refreshing to see him doing what he does. 😁 2

Olaf_ZG Posted October 4, 2022 Share #13 Posted October 4, 2022 This same Ben, did the promotional shots for the special “seal” edition. I really like the energy Ben has!
wilfredo Posted October 10, 2022 Share #14 Posted October 10, 2022 He's preaching to the choir here. I own a Q2M, and wondering why he's not shooting with a Q2M? He seems to lean in the direction of B&W photography. I need no convincing, the monochrom version of the Q2 has become my favorite camera, and yes it's great for portraits! I love the colors of the Q2 but for my limited Color work, I continue to use my Sony A7R3. When the Q3 comes along, I may consider it for Color work alongside of my Q2M, my faorite all time camera. Here's a Q2M portrait taken at the NYC Pride Parade. Welcome, dear visitor!
