Jeff S Posted February 27, 2022 Share #21 Â Posted February 27, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) The now discontinued M Summarits are noted for their flare resistance, the 35 in particular, but there have been good reports on the 50 as well. I read somewhere that Leica applied blackening inside the rear of these lenses for improved flare resistance, but if so, one would think this would be a common practice. horosu Posted February 27, 2022 Share #26 Â Posted February 27, 2022 The Zeiss lenses are very flare resistant, in stark contrast with Leica lenses. The C-Biogon is no exception here. I remember Erwin Putts had an article declaring the C-Biogon the king of flare resistance. The best Leica lens, in this respect, in my experience, was the Summilux 50 ASPH. I used it without a hood with no issues (as I do with all my lenses). Â

If you haven’t been concerned about your own, I suspect there’s nothing to be concerned about.  I’ll leave it experts like the late Erwin Puts to conduct controlled tests (he noted the flare resistance of the Summarits). Jeff Edited February 27, 2022 by Jeff S

Jeff S Posted March 1, 2022 Share #32  Posted March 1, 2022 It’s called flare resistant, not flare proof, just as weather resistant vs weatherproof.  Any lens can/will flare; some are easier to induce flare under various lighting conditions.  Plus flare rendering characteristics vary and remain subjective.  In the end, as with most any picture/print result, the user is key.
