Advertisement Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Hi Viv, Take a look here Leica APS-C -- No more!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ivar B Posted March 15, 2022 Share #322 Posted March 15, 2022 Is there any chance that Sigma or Panaonic might launch an APS-C in L-mount. If Leica stops developing this camera system many people will end up with lenses with no home, except the FF bodies in crop mode.
Louis Posted March 15, 2022 Author Share #323 Posted March 15, 2022 Leica rumors is talking about a Q3 concept with a 50mm lens that looks quite interesting to me, although quite slow. https://leicarumors.com/2022/03/10/leica-q3-camera-concept-with-a-50mm-lens.aspx/ If they make any FF with L mount, the MP must be very high for us to use our TL lenses with crop! They already make so many APS-C lenses. A Panasonic APS-C would surprise me with their M43 line already getting attention in addition to FF. Seems like a good approach to the Alliance; let Sigma have APS-C, Panasonic can do M43, everyone has FF offerings, and Leica...well, we will see... 26 minutes ago, Louis said: Leica rumors is talking about a Q3 concept with a 50mm lens that looks quite interesting to me, although quite slow. https://leicarumors.com/2022/03/10/leica-q3-camera-concept-with-a-50mm-lens.aspx/ If they make any FF with L mount, the MP must be very high for us to use our TL lenses with crop! It looks like that mock-up is all in fun after going through the comments. I don't see a fixed lens f2.8 prime doing well at all. If they released a FF, high MP, L-Mount body with IBIS and interchangeable lenses in the size of a Q body, why would anyone buy an SL? Other than balancing out the SL lenses. I think something like that would take sales from both the SL and the M series bodies. At least for people who aren't already committed to Ms. Edited March 15, 2022 by smcmason

At least for people who aren't already committed to Ms. Because that model would be the new SL and it will replace the bigger SL2 sister. And no, it won't cannibalize M sales. M are OVF rangefinders, L EVF and autofocus. Not everyone interested in a rangefinder is also interested in autofocus and viceversa. And if Leica won't do it, Panasonic will, stealing these sales from Leica. I know I won't buy a SL3 with the current size, and I'm not even remotely interested in the M. It's either a smaller SL3 or a Panasonic S52 for me.

If they can make zoom lenses as fast and small as the Sigma 18-50, then maybe.
Gregm61 Posted March 16, 2022 Share #330 Posted March 16, 2022 Took a look at Tamarkin’s site this morning and looked in the APS-C page to see only lenses for sale left. No body listed in any manner so it definitely looks like what we currently have is “it”.
Planetwide Posted March 16, 2022 Share #331 Posted March 16, 2022 SL3 is coming, and it will sell. One SL prime is coming this year, possibly two. Panasonic is going to release a very good 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 The quality discussion tells me who has shot SL primes and who has not. They are quite simply the best primes in the world for their respective apertures. Cost/price ratio is only something that you can decide upon, and I respect your choices. An example of other choices, the Sigma 24 f3.4 is a very good lens for a great price. Leica has dropped the SL ball with the lethargic release of SL primes and zooms. Many users simply got tired of waiting and moved on, and Leica lost all of that good will. In some ways they have done this to themselves. But I think that the SL mount will soldier on, and we will hopefully get some much needed love from Leica this year.
Kim Dahl Posted March 16, 2022 Share #332 Posted March 16, 2022 Nice with optimism. But I do not think it's going to go that fast. After I have tried both Sony, Nikon and Canon. (ended up buying Canon) so it is not much quality difference today. I can not see it and I have been working with press photographer for over 35 years. In the "old" days - 5-7 years ago - there was maybe. In addition, AF are years better than Leica’s AF If Leica L Mount survives, something must happen very quickly. Sorry I'm somewhat pessimistic but their handling of the Leica APSC reached Leica's bottom of service.
Foxtwo Posted March 16, 2022 Share #333 Posted March 16, 2022 Looking at the M11 pricing, plus the April 1st increases, factoring in inflation, Leica needs a quality "affordable" entry camera more than ever. Right now, all of the above is rapidly progressing to limit Leica into a very small market of wealthy enthusiasts and a handful of pro's. If they drop APSC so be it, but I'm not sure that it's viable to have the base a fixed lens camera pushing seven grand USD, which is where the Q2 is going to end up in short order. We shall see. If you mean a camera with interchangeable lenses, all of them are more expensive than non Leica competitors. As long as i recall, it has always been like this since 1932 but i may be wrong. Enrique Santa Posted March 16, 2022 Share #336 Posted March 16, 2022 It seems that in a very few time the only cams we could buy will be zenits and China made. So don't feel worried for apsc...feel worried for a world that is ending in the way we know it.
tritentrue Posted March 17, 2022 Share #337 Posted March 17, 2022 According to a local insider, full-frame L-mount is also not selling well for Leica. He tells me that in sales meetings, the reps instruct the dealers and salesmen to hold the line in prices. But in their subsequent one-on-one conversations, they tell them to push the SL cameras out the door for whatever price they can get for them. According to him, the current "Change/switch to Leica" trade-in promotion is prompted by a large amount of unsold stock. Anyway, yesterday I sent a very direct query to Wetzlar asking for a definitive response on the future of APS-C. Now waiting to hear what they have to say. Or if they even bother to reply, which would also be an answer of sorts. 5
Le Chef Posted March 17, 2022 Share #338 Posted March 17, 2022 You don’t do repeat promotional offers unless you’re in trouble. If you’re doing well you milk it by creating special editions. It’s easy to see which way the wind is blowing for Leica and the SL2/S, and also in the opposite direction for the Q2/M/Reporter. Leica may end up with just two product lines: M series and the Q series. The gap between the PanaLeicas and the Q2 is really too great to bridge for most photographers. You’re more likely to migrate to a Fuji system as your next step.
