shirubadanieru Posted February 20, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, was hoping you could shed some light into this lens I got. It’s a rigid, but the serial number 227xxx seems to be transitional as it’s not listed in the wiki page of the rigid? Also the design differs slightly from the regular rigid in the top (highlighted below). If anyone can help me with any details you might know I’d appreciate it. I wasn’t aware there were any design differences made to the body of the rigid so I got curious. Thank you! Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 Hi shirubadanieru, Take a look here Rigid 50mm with V3 Batch Serial Number?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted February 20, 2022 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2022 Thiele lists your number 2278868 as a second version - i.e. "rigid" - Summicron from 1968, the third version starting one year later with 2385001, though Lager shows a 2269508 black anodized version 3. This example has no knurling on the front ring with index for f-stop.
a.noctilux Posted February 20, 2022 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2022 Comparing to mine, the rear knurling ring is narrower. Small variations of cosmetics, coatings, and lens figures or optical glass are the norm for Summicron 5cm/50mm fascinating anyway to see so many variations for same lens
luigi bertolotti Posted February 20, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) As you say, is an interesting "transitional" Summicron, which can explain little oddities towards a "normal" rigid... the ring you evidence is indeed a bit thinner than usual... making the "spacing" to fit the dented hoods (ITDOO - IROOA) a bit wider... but not so much to have the hood "unstable", I think... As a side note... that thinner ring looks similar to the one made for the "50 years" edition 🙂 (see one hereunder, at right) Welcome, dear visitor! Indeed it is, I had not noticed the 50th years edition was the same as this 'late' rigid design
luigi bertolotti Posted February 21, 2022 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2022 Well.. the "50 years" indeed is a different lens, though "disguised" as a rigid ☺️: it has the current lens' schema, has not the focusing knob, nor the unscrewable lenshead,

luigi bertolotti Posted February 23, 2022 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2022 (edited) Good find Jean Marc !! I checked my DR too, but is 1785xxx and "normal"... it's clear that the last breed of the rigid has this little different detail (*)... I think I'll notify it to the Italian guys (Cavina & C.) who published some good pages on the Summicrons, but did not mention this detail... 🙂 Thinking well to this matter... I have checked my hoods for Summicrons... the old IROOA and the newer 12585 (introdiced around '64-'65 I think) : the 4 spring loaded "blades" that engage in the space between the two knurled front rings have a slightly different thickness... they are slimmer in the IROOA, which makes thinking to a relation with this modification on the front rings... (though 12585 can fit anyway on the "classic" rigid Summicron) (*) of course I will also search other items in the 22xx.xxx on the web... 😁 Edited February 23, 2022 by luigi bertolotti
