The accessory for middle aged dudes with no real hobbies or future outlook, hoping for validation on internet forums. And upper crust Asians flexing their Q2's. M8 is cool since it's vaguely less madly priced, the screen is perfect, and makes sense for somebody who just wants a full manual rangefinder experience with an M-mount. Most actual rich dude friends of mine, could care less about something as arcane as dragging around a massively outdated camera in 2022. Rich people are largely about experiences, extending health later into life, having young attractive people in their life. Yachts, jets, etc. A camera in all that mix? lol Case in point, I've got a white edition M10 that sits on a shelf somewhere in one of the condos back in the city, while we're kitesurfing and road tripping and enjoying life. Using my Leicas, gives me great pleasure. And we should be grateful that those things exist. Of course, there are no rational reasons for buying a Leica M. But rationality is a cognitive capability which should be deployed flexibly. Otherwise, one could find many good reasons for not enjoying the good things in life. Cameras are so good now that nearly any you could name is good enough to hold a museum show with. We tend to compare them on specs because that is how marketers sell them. But we consistently discount the actual experience of using cameras. I think for professionals and for a large segment of the serious amateur market, it is more about the experience of using a camera than the specs. If you can choose any camera, wouldn't you choose the one that you felt best using? All specs aside, the M11 is totally unique in the market (other than its own M brethren) in how it feels to use it. It is the biggest barrier to success and also its biggest advantage. My favorite cameras tend to be favorites because they have good specs, but much more because they do what they do so well. My prize cameras are the Mamiya 7II, my Ebony 4x5 and my SL2...they just do the job they were designed to do so well, that they don't leave me asking about the specs. Some models will become desirable antiques that people will pay a premium to own and use, I suspect, like the M9, last M with a CCD sensor, or M10-P, last 24 MP M with great shutter sound.
