If you’ve ever downloaded any of David’s LR presets - for the SL2 in particular - his processing approach is to, first, pull down exposure to approximately -80, pull down highlights to -80 and push up shadows to +80, bring up whites and bring down blacks proportionally. It’s not a terrible way to start - and when you bring up exposure you have a more dynamic picture to work with.

In LrC, Exposure range is between -5 and + 5, -80 is not possible

I've updated to DxO PhotoLab, which fits me better.  So, to get single-image HDR, do I save two edits from that image, one for highlights, and one for shadows, and then combine them in HDR software, such as Photomatix Pro?  I thought there was a single tool that did all the HDR work for me, from a single image?

You can create HDR photo with the M10 and/or Q2 and/or SL2.  In the drive menu just select exposure bracketing, choose 5 frames and 1 EV.  It helps if you use a tripod, but not absolutely necessary.  Then use Lightroom to combine the five images and you will have one very large DNG file.

Other than for the Lightroom part, that's what I've done for years with most of my cameras.  Maybe things have changed, but Photomatix 6 offered a lot more HDR tools, some of which I found were helpful - this back when I was still using Lightroom.

Its not technically HDR...he simply adjusted the highlights and shadows in a single image. You can do this in any software.

Just raise your shadows 100% and lower your highlights 100% and you will see what we are describing. Then adjust each to the scene including the exposure setting. Thats all...no magic.

You would do it from the DNG. but I don't think any of the DxO programs support opening the raw files of the Leica Cameras

I don't know about the M11, but DxO PhotoLab works fine with the M10 dng images.

They support many Leica cameras now, including M10, M10-P and M10-D. They say M10-R will be supported by Q1 2022, so maybe at some point M11 will be supported as well

Yes, I should have written “-0.80.” Responses like the one quoted here are why, after being a member of the forum since 2003, I spend so little here.

correct. no M10-R, M11 ( probably to new, but does not ever read the embedded format, what any other DNG program does)

First of all thank you very much for telling us about David’s LR presets, I will try the approach and see if it works for me. But, if you allow me,  I think there is no need to be offended by someone highlighting a minor mistake. I had the same question in my mind as I was trying to understand your post, and I was going to ask you actually if you meant -0.8 stops.

DxO will likely never support Monochroms.  And they’re generally late to the party for other Leica models.  No thanks.

One more tip from the Live video...this Anker 40w charger will charge the M11 via USB-C twice as fast as the Leica Battery Charger.

Yes, but the battery will probably last longer if not charged at such a high rate - they also explained that.  If you need the batter in a hurry though, that's a awesome!
