Jacobjuul Posted January 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Last week I purchased a brand new M10-R BP since I thought it would take a long wait before we would actually be able to buy the M11 (going by other brands like Nikon). To my surprise the M11 seems readily available at my local dealer (and probably the rest of the world too). I still haven't taken it out of the box yet, so I have about 1.5 weeks to return it. Having never owned a modern Leica(I have an M9), I am not sure how much I'd be giving up by going with the M10-R. The Black paint is nice, if it's like my MP, but on the other hand it's silly to forego a better camera just because of some nice paint. Any advice would be appreciated. Hanno Posted January 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) That's a nice problem to have 😀 What would make you think now of not returning the M10R and not getting the M11? I am asking since initially you bought the M10R as you thought you would not get a M11 soon.... Now that you can have the M11 right away, what is the issue about? 🤔 Edited January 25, 2022 by Hanno
M Journey Posted January 25, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2022 The m11 has a lot of upgrades and new features. There are plenty of posts here that talk about what people like and don’t like. It’s a personal choice though. For some, the black paint makes the camera more special and more enjoyable to use, much like like how people enjoy Leicas over other brands due to looks and the tactile features. If this is your only Leica and you want to have the Leica experience and Leica look in the photos, get the m11. If you have other leicas and/or list after the loom of the black paint and look forward to brassing it over time, keep the BP. The M10-r was the best M camera until a month ago and is still 90-95% the image quality of the m11, and by my estimate about 70-80% of the technology, ease of use, and conveniences. I had a choice of a m10r BP or m11 as my first foray into Leica and I chose the m11. As much as I love how the BP looks, I know it would irk me to use it with non BP lenses. And I can’t afford to buy one body for BP lenses and one body for normal lenses. I actually could barely afford the one body and lens I have now.

M Journey Posted January 25, 2022 Share #7 Posted January 25, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Another thing to consider is 5 years from now when the m12 is out, the BP may have more resale value and both will be 5 years old (+ a few months for the BP). So both cameras will be older models and if both were on your shelf, the BP may tug at your heart more to bring it out to play. but for the next 5 years the m11 will help you capture better photos, everything else being equal. If you're basing this comment on images posted on the forum, take it with a grain of salt. Images look great when correctly processed or even straight out of camera. 2

Id suggest you go the the dealer and try it out first. Personally, I would exchange in a heart beat. But also consider resale value. Your advantage is the price is the same new...but in a year I would think the M11 will be worth more.

There is a significant change in the menu system, the M10 system is far easier for me, perhaps familiarity but it was the reason I didn't buy the M11. A good dealer will work with you through this and make sure you are making the best decision. Another good source of help is to contact the local Leica Rep. And chances are there will be a black paint M11 showing up in the next year or 2 So basically, dump on the black paint…. but also hold out for a year or two waiting for it. Where do you get this material? 😆

No one dumping on anything , I am telling him that the M10R bp is not a special edition so it will not be an unobtainable collectable. End of the day I don’t give a rats ass who buys what. God damn I am sick and tired of these romantics on this forum, most of you will have a great courier writing for harlequin. This is so funny. You do realise we are talking Leica, no? But then again, I’m a guy who teaches Thucydides for a living, and occasionally I use a typewriter, so I just can’t get your point. 🙂
