I recommend a somewhat different approach when it comes to your first Leica lens:

Don't be afraid to destroy the back account.

OP found Summilux-M 50 asph. so maybe later he would buy Rigid which is a very nice lens to discover.

Thanks!

I will research this.

This is my first post here.  I'm considering a Leica M10 and need to get a good first lens that won't destroy my bank account.  35mm or 50mm suggestions?

Thanks!

Depends entirely on your proposed subject matter. I am about to come back to the Leica M fold and choose a 35mm Summicron F2 I have also bought a 90mm F2 secondhand. Those two will cover my needs.

I picked up a Voigtlander 75mm/1.5 from FredMiranda, so now have a 28/50/75 kit.

Congrats.

But now that you’ve purchased your first M and three lenses in less than a month, my suggestion is to get off the forum for a few months and go shooting.  Otherwise you’ll shortly pick up a 35 for a one lens kit, etc etc. The forum feeds GAS, not pics. I’ve been using M’s since the 80’s, and still use only 28/35/50. Sometimes less is more.  Better to buy a good printer if you haven’t already… IMHO.

I’m in the market for a compact 35 lens. While the intent was to buy an older Summaron, yesterday I happened to see both the Summicron 35 ASPH and the latest Voigtlander Ultron. The Ultron is really value for money. It’s so good and compact to boot. Now it’s becoming hard to select one.

The inability is often a good cure for GAS.
