Another update: instead of a m9, I most probably buy a second m8.

I want an EDC and the Q was/is too wide, the griiix files are not too my liking and a x100stfv just too small in my hands.

a m8 is price wise the same and for EDC prints above 15x22cm rarely happen. A m9 is still double the price and for an EDC I don’t want to have worries regarding damage, theft and so on.

@ianmanway too funny 😂

still, my mind is not made up. Though nice for ir (infrared), the m8 is a crop sensor.

for colour I bought the SL (not sure what this means: second l-mount?), and I love the m9m. May be search a second one of that?

having only one, makes me use it less as I am afraid one day it will break. It is a stupid thought, which happily I don’t have with lenses, but bodies I tend to buy in pairs…

I have two M8's, thought the camera so good...for one important reason, mainly...

The crop...it uses just the middle part of the lens, a place where there is no smearing, colour shifts, italian flag, reduced fringing, etc.  Makes the image pop, and pop more.

I've been using a full frame digicam last few years, amonst others.. M-P 240 with a range of lenses from Leica, to Nikon, Canon, Voigtlander, even Soviet lenses. I do like trying them all...my interest is cameras and the physics of the image.

Point is full frame almost always shows image degradation. Particularly around the edges...unless one wants to spend several $ thousands...not me.

On cropped, this isn't a problem...everything in focus, and smear free, etc, or as intended by the focusing.

There's a reason some long term camera users are reverting to APS-C, or other camera systems eg Fuji, or in this case APS-H.  It's more than adequate for photographic excellence.

I'm still using my M-P 240, and always my two M8's.

Sorry to be so long.

Excellent point, David, and thanks for mentioning it.

I've been using M9s since they came out and one is carried almost everywhere with me. No problems with doing so whatsoever. Depends where/what you shoot I suppose but risk apply to all equipment regardless of size/cost/etc.. I simply don't let any of them worry me.

Like @pgk for the last 5 years I've been using 3 M9s one is always with me as an EDC with 35mm Summicron. I paid a lot of money for them and I don't want them to sit idle, all have certified 2nd Gen replacement sensors. I love the poutput form them and the ease of processing.

thank you all for commenting on this thread. Those who follow the m8 as well, might know I am doubting between a m8, m9 or m9m as a daily carry around.

having already both the m8 and m9m I have this stupid feeling, I need to double the cameras as I will be sad if one breaks. Such a stupid thing in my head.

so, for now my decision is not to buy anything. Time to use what I have. The m8 has 25k clicks, the m9m around 10k, so most probably they can run many years to come.

Good decision. 👍
