lct Posted January 24, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any experience with intruding lenses on the M11? I think of Super-Angulon-M 21/3.4 or 21/4 or Elmarit-M 28/2.8 v1. Those lenses were supposed to work with previous M cameras but metering was only possible in LV mode then. Metering should not be a problem anymore on the M11 i guess but what about smeared corners with thoses lenses? Any improvement due to the M11's thinner sensor stack? Just curious. Please forget my question if it has been answered elsewhere.

digitalfx Posted January 24, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2022 According to the manual: LENSES WITH LIMITED COMPATIBILITY COMPATIBLE, BUT MAY POSE RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE CAMERA AND/OR LENS – Lenses with retractable tube must only be used with the tube extended, i.e. never attempt to retract the tube while the lens is attached to the camera. This does not apply for the current Makro-Elmar-M 90 f/4 model, as its tube will not retract into the camera itself and can therefore be used without restriction. – When using Heavy lenses attached to a tripod-mounted camera, e.g. Noctilux 50 f/0.95 or Leica R lenses with an adapter: make sure that the tilt of the tripod head cannot move inadvertently when the camera is not held. A sudden tilt and impact could result in damage to the lower edge of the camera bayonet. That is why you should always use the tripod mount on relevantly equipped lenses. COMPATIBLE, BUT EXACT FOCUSING MAY BE LIMITED Despite the high precision of the rangefinder on the camera, exact focusing with 135 mm lenses with an open aperture cannot be guar- anteed due to the very low depth of field. We therefore recommend stopping down by at least 2 steps. Live View mode, on the other hand, plus the various setting aids provided, allow unrestricted use of this lens. INCOMPATIBLE LENSES – Hologon 15 f/8 – Summicron 50 f/2 with close-up function – Elmar 90 f/4 with retractable tube (manufactured 1954-1968) – Some examples of the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 (non-aspherical, manufactured 1961-1995, Made in Canada) cannot be attached to the camera or cannot focus to infinity. Leica Customer Care can modify these lenses for use with the camera.

UliWer Posted January 24, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2022 (edited) 1 hour ago, digitalfx said: the manual: Is repeating what it said for all digital M models. And it is not right: 1 hour ago, digitalfx said: INCOMPATIBLE LENSES – Summicron 50 f/2 with close-up function Look at Jono's example with this lens - also with close-up function. Since the M11 has the same protruding bayonet flange as the M10 the dual-scale Summicron can be attached and will work - it did not with the M8, M9, M (Typ 240). Edit: Just read that Jono didn't use the "goggles" for close-up function yet. So it still has to be verified if it works - it usually works with the M10. Same for canadian versions of the 35mm Summilux (pre asph). On former digital bodies the lenses rear "collar" had to be changed by Leica before you could attach it. For the M10/11 this isn't necessary anymore. The 21mm Super-Angulon always could be attached to any digital bodies. But the normal lightmetering from the shutter curtain did not work as it's large rear lens element shadowed the little lens for lightmetering in the camera's mouth. As the M11 uses lightmtering only from the sensor, you will be able to use the Super-Angulon as a "normal" lens. Of course the Super-Angulon produced very ugly "italian flag" colors on the edges - still with the M10. It has been said that this was improved with the M11, but I havn't seen any examples yet. There are tons of threads in this forum about collapsible lenses. All - with no exception! - can be used, that means they can be attached when they are extracted and will work! Can they be collapsed into the camera? I refer to the M10 FAQ: I see no reason why anything said there changed with the M11. In the contrary: it seems as if there was more space in the M11 camera's mouth than in former digital models (the lens for lightmetering has gone). Though the general recommendation to attach or loosen a collapsible lens only when it is extracted stays. If someone want's to try if you can collapse an old collapsible version of the 90mm Elmar (you certainly could not with former digital models), please try only very carefully and stop immediately if you feel any resistance! Of course the current 1:4/90mm Macro-Elmar-M can be used and collapsed without any restrictions. Edited January 24, 2022 by UliWer

That's what i would like to know as the lens doesn't produce any italian flag on the BSI sensor of my A7r2.
