Still playing with my M11 but I was keen to know if it could do infra red photography. It does. Images of no particular merit but shows what it can do. 50mm f2 Summicron at f8 and 3200 ISO. There’s a hot spot on the right hand side of the lens but nothing too bad. This is a merged panorama of three images.

Hi Ian,

I can't count the number of times I and my wife and boys (28&23 now) have been to watch the sunset outside the Roebuck!.

Every day, I walked to and back hone from my office in Richmond for 4 years up to the ridgeway and down to the river and then to Kingston.

Small small world !!

We should have a beer sometime :)

Cool picture by the way.

How do you capture infra red. What settings, filters or tools do you use?

It's a bright day, and we have dazzling highlights from the foot of snow that was dumped here on Friday.  But with the new metering on the M11, some C1 brightness for the midtones, and maximum shadow lift (in C1, this affects all tones to some degree), skin tones on faces that you can't even see in the jpeg are coming out well:

Here's another example:

the near shadows were unviewable on the VF 2.

Beer sounds good!

I use a B&W 093 filter (ie 830nm) and set at f8-11, not least to overcome the slightly different focusing point for infra red light. M11 ISO performance is so good that it almost doesn’t matter what you use I played with 64 up to 50000 and got useable pictures. That said, I think ISO 800 is probably the sweet spot.

You can still use live view to compose the picture and exposure is usually 1.5 - 4 sec depending on light seconds etc. That’s much better than my Q2, which also produces good IR images but takes around 15 secs at ISO 800 in bright light and live view can’t be used as not enough light is getting through.

Slight tweaking in Capture One - just convert to b&w, tweak exposure, levels and highlights/shadows. Only 2-3 minutes per pic

Hmmm, pretty cool, does look a bit like a scene from 'Toy Story'  :)

Post another image without any processing?

@mkur and @peterinkingston

I uploaded the original dng and my color preset (lightroom) here:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Qee_4osEZuKm9fBAf0Y3unyw3T4JPl2F?usp=sharing

The color preset is only a slight modification of Adobe's landscape profile.

Was able to go to an America's Got Talent Show while in Vegas last week.  This was a compilation of a few of the winners and runner ups from previous seasons.

Here is a great example of when 60mp comes in handy.

And here is a crop.  I don't know how to do an exact 100% crop (if anyone wants to teach me how I'm all ears)

Can anyone tell me why a crop would be larger than the original file when exported with all settings the same?
